18 Great Value For Money Golf Courses to Play in 2024
The golf season is finally here and it's time that you started planning exciting excursions to play some fabulous courses.
When it comes to choosing where you should visit, the Golfshake Community has always valued paying a fair price for the experience offered by a venue, which is why we recently asked golfers to name the course they played last year that presented the best value for money.
Over 700 of you responded, and there were several repeat shouts among that group.
We have brought together 18 places that had at least three unique mentions, suggesting that what you get from them is more than worth the cost.
Now, it's worth adding the caveat that some players may have benefited from twilight deals, winter rates, playing in an open competition, or indeed taking advantage of reciprocal options and being the guest of a member, all of which can substantially reduce the expense that you are required to part with.
However, because of the date we're publishing this article, we have simply added the peak summer green fee for each course below, but we'd encourage you to look around for reductions during other months of the year that may better reflect value for money.
That said, there is no question that the following courses offer an experience that comes universally Highly Recommended on Golfshake.
So, if you're searching for new courses to tick off your list in 2024, here are some wonderful destinations to start with!
Aylesbury Vale Golf Club
Location: Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.28
Green Fees: From £25
Review Comment: "Fairways are some of the best in the area. Good layout, easy to play, wind and rough will sort you out if off-line. Members are great, best atmosphere at any golf club."
Ballinrobe Golf Club
Location: Ballinrobe, Mayo, Ireland
Golfshake Rating: 3.84
Green Fees: From €45
Review Comment: "Ballinrobe is an excellent parkland course, plenty of challenging holes, especially on on the back nine. I'd love to play it in the summer when it's dry, always end up playing in October and it is usually quite wet but the greens are always superb."
Beau Desert Golf Club
Location: Cannock, Staffordshire, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.85
Green Fees: From £110
Review Comment: "Played this beautiful course yesterday. Amazing condition, springy fairways, huge undulating greens. Lovely views on many holes. A firm but fair test, but stay on the fairways - anything off-line is difficult to find. Some lovely testing holes. I will be back."
Bentham Golf Club
Location: Bentham, North Yorkshire, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.57
Green Fees: From £17.50
Review Comment: "Lovely course with great views and some challenging holes. It can get a little wet after rain but don't let that put you off. The greens were in excellent condition for the time of year. I always enjoy playing at Bentham."
Castle Eden Golf Club

Cleeve Hill Golf Club
Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.24
Green Fees: From £25
Review Comment: "If your legs are up for the challenge, and this course isn't easy walking, then you'll be rewarded with a lovely course and some outstanding views. The greens, tees and fairways are good rather than outstanding, but some of the holes are really pretty. The holes I loved were all downhill, 9, 10, 17 and 18, but the views as you work your way down to the 13th are stunning. The fairways are all pretty wide and the greens aren't the trickiest you'll play, so the main protection is when the wind blows. There's little to protect you from it. The clubhouse certainly has seen better days, but there was a warm welcome there and in the pro shop. I would absolutely recommend Cleeve Hill."
College Pines Golf Club
Location: Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.36
Green Fees: From £20
Review Comment: "This fabulous course is a must if you are in the area. As the name suggests, it's set within a forest of pine trees, the layout is beautifully defined but not too tight. With most other courses wet and barely playable, College Pines delivered - its sand base means the water soaks through leaving the course a delight even after weeks of non-stop rain. Extremely friendly in the clubhouse and pro shop, you will be made very welcome. Definitely worth a round!"
Conwy Golf Club
Location: Conwy, Gwynedd, Wales
Golfshake Rating: 4.56

Review Comment: "Beautiful place. Stunning golf course in excellent condition and has a special feel you don't get everywhere. Be back to play again soon."

Golfshake Rating: 4.94
Green Fees: From £210
Review Comment: "From walking into reception to leaving the clubhouse after a great round and excellent meal, the guys at Dundonald Links didn’t put a foot wrong. Very friendly welcome in the pro shop and starter. The course was in excellent condition, the layout is great and was a good test - playable but testing - a really enjoyable day and top quality at a fair price. Will be visiting again."
Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club
Location: Alnwick, Northumberland, England
Golfshake Rating: 4.41
Green Fees: From £40
Review Comment: "Top coastal course, stunning views. We weren't blessed with weather but could still appreciate the fine layout here and course was still very firm from two weeks of dry and sunny weather. The selection of holes is a real treat with a mix of length, difficulty and strategy all underpinned by some excellent conditioning. Although we left somewhat beaten by the rain I think we'd all look forward to having another go to truly appreciate the fine course and stunning scenery available. Till next time..."
Hornsea Golf Club
Location: Hornsea, East Yorkshire, England

Review Comment: "Fantastic course to play, good for all levels of golfer. if you stay straight you will score well (I didn't). Nonetheless a real challenge, the greens, tees and course in perfect condition. Friendliness of members second to none, a member we met two days previous noticed us halfway though his round and made a point of walking over to speak and asked how we were getting on and enjoying the course."
Nairn Golf Club

Stunning condition and views always, traditional challenging links that you need to think your way around."
