What the club says: Hidden among the towering canopy of Staffordshire's Cannock Forest, this Herbert Fowler classic stands proudly alongside his other English master-pieces - Saunton, Walton Heath and The Berkshire to name but a few. The beauty of Beau Desert is hard to describe as, with only the occasional passing Stag as a critic of your ability to master the rolling fairways and testing greens, you will enjoy both a sense of isolation and peacefulness here allowing you to focus on your game and enjoy your visit to the full.

Worst greens we have played on

A group of 9 of us had booked several months in advance)to play recently. I received an email 3 days before we were due to play advising that they had an outbreak of Fusarium and quote -
‘the greens continue to improve steadily. Ball roll remains true overall and reasonably quick, though you may notice some patchy or inconsistent areas’
I called and spoke to the pro who said they weren’t too bad (in what I learned later was a scripted response).
This was massively understated. The greens were terrible- lots of bare patches, bone dry and bumpy.
Totally spoilt our day.
They twice reduced the green fee from £115, first to £100 (notified in the email) and further to £85 on the day.
If they had been truthful we would not have played it for any money. Disgraceful.

Not worth it at the moment

I payed at this course in an NCG event on the 6th May 2025 and whilst I enjoyed the course the condition of the greens was shocking. We were advised of an attack of fusarium but were told that the greens, although patchy, still ran true. However this was not really the case. In order to reduce the effect of the patchiness the greens were cut really short, they were really dry and the ball bobbled all over the place. Until this is sorted out I would not consider this course worth the green fee and it spoilt the experience significantly. I did enjoy the layout and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I would pay again, but only once this has been dealt with effectively.

Played in a pairs open comp. The Club were very welcoming and the practice facilities were excellent from driving range, short game area and putting green. The course design is playing to the eye with holes sculptured through trees and heather. The bunkering adds to the beauty. The greens were large and sloppy so positioning your ball was vital to scoring well.

Excellent course. The first time I have ever played here in the winter and I was amazed on the condition considering the recent wet weather. All tees and greens were on. Hardly any wet patches at all. Credit to the staff. Very tight course with a number of blind tee shots.

Beautiful indeed

Played this beautiful course yesterday. Amazing condition, springy fairways, huge undulating greens. Lovely views on many holes. A firm but fair test, but stay on the fairways - anything off line is difficult to find. Some lovely testing holes. I will be back :-) Friendly staff in the clubhouse. Played with a member so relatively cheap for me.

Absolutely love this course

Immaculate and amazing views. It is so serene. Second time I have played and won't b the last.
I played with a 4 handicapper who loved it but thought it was too short off yellows.
Full price pf GBP 90 is quite alot when you consider pre Covid there was a county card rate of GBP 40 which is just a steal. But Beau Desert is a quality course and does not need to buy visitors, nor entertain societies. It is just top quality from start to finish!

OMG what a fabulous heathland course. Best in the Midlands?

Take North Hants, Notts Hollinwell and Sherwood Forest and put them together and you get this fabulous course at a fraction of the price......£45 with a county card. Not a weak hole anywhere, stunning views, beautiful bracken, heather, varied trees, areas of rough in middle of fairways, and elevated greens.....not to mention the sensational rolling countryside and occasional roaming deer. It is amazing. We all play a lot of courses around and cannot believe why no-one talk about this place . Apparently they do not do society days - keeping it a bit exclusive I guess. But just go play. I promise you it is a cracker. We can;t wait to go back!

Tough track first time around and they don't accept Golfshake handica

Having had my Golfshake handicap refused I was told I could not compete in the competition with the rest of my 4 ball partners. Not the best start to the day and something I will take up with Golfshake directly. The course itself to my mind is quite tough on some holes getting to the greens where you almost play a second game as the holes themselves are the major defence, the group felt. I am 15 hc and my partners are better players than myself and they said some of the greens were unfair. That said the course was enjoyable to play and a good test of golf. If you have a trolley it is a longer walk given all of the restrictions of where to go. Prepare to be frustrated and rewarded in equal measure.

One of the best courses I have ever played. If you ever got the chance to play do it. The course is cut out of Cannock Chase. Does not look a long course of the card but is far from easy. Quite a lot of blind holes so its helpful to go round with a member who can give you vital tips.

Probably one of the most picturesque courses I have played alongside a few down near Bournemouth. The course was in immaculate condition for late in October. A tricky course if like me it is you first time, there a a few blind tee shots and second shots to contend with. The fairways were like most fringes of many courses greens. The greens were cut tight and were fast with plenty of borrows. Clubhouse facilities were very good, food well worth trying and very welcoming of visitors.
