Cavendish Golf Club
Gadley Lane, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6XD United Kingdom
Cavendish, which opened in 1925, was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, and unlike many early courses has not been altered in response to today’s pressures. At 5721 yds off the medal tees, the course remains shorter than many, yet still fulfils MacKenzie's belief that length has nothing to do with the quality of a hole.Book a Tee Time

Lovely course in wonderful condition. This course makes you feel like you could get a great round but is so well designed that you a fooled into a false sense of security. Lovely location and filled with wildlfe. Played in an open here and both me and my playing partner (in first ever competition) were made to feel very welcome.

Nice course. The start eases you in with a few basic side by side holes but with great views over the valley. The second green is tricky. There is a delightful par three and then it is off up the hill. The course is well kept and interesting. Some unexpected course design hits in which is not on the card back nine so watch out, you may need to leave the driver in the bag on par 4, unsure if the distances were correct as I over hit everything. Not cheap. The course is also a strong walk.

I played Cavendish on a bright sunny Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed my round. The course itself is well looked after and set in the rolling Derbyshire hills... in fact some of the holes go UP some of the said hills!
The course is challenging enough with some tricky hazards and tee boxes. The fairways are cut tight and reward the long, accurate drive while the rough is a real reason to stay in regulation.
The greens are multi-levelled and reading putt line and speed is difficult.
The clubhouse is great with a terrace offering fantastic views back up the long 18th.
While I enjoyed my round I was thankful we had decided to hire a buggy on such a hot day... particularly given the mountainous slopes of the course.
I will play Cavendish again but there are better courses at competitive prices in the area.
