What the club says: Cavendish, which opened in 1925, was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, and unlike many early courses has not been altered in response to today’s pressures. At 5721 yds off the medal tees, the course remains shorter than many, yet still fulfils MacKenzie's belief that length has nothing to do with the quality of a hole.

Played here with some pals on a glorious October afternoon, the course is a absolute delight first three holes are relatively straightforward but the greens are a sign of things to come ahead, after that the course \opens up with some stunning scenery and views over the peaks. Some great elevated Ts and I think the par 3s are some of best short holes i have played anywhere, 10 and 11 are stunners also The course is not overly long but plays longer than its yardage if you keep the ball in plays a good score can be had. All in all a magnificent course and at \£20 during the weekend amazing value. My new absolute favourite course\\Hc 11 shot 80 \ - Oct 4 2015

Golf Course Reviews for Cavendish Golf Club
Designed by the man who went to design Augusta! need I say more. In the Peak district, so plenty of slopes, humps and hollows. Fabulous place!
(Round played: Jul 2018 - Score: 86 Handicap: 14.4)
Wow. What a course. I had heard great things about this place and, having checked the green fees (?20-?25 during weekdays), booked up for a round for Tuesday 17th July.
Having reviewed the scorecard in advance, I was concerned that the course yardage of less than 5600 may be an issue - not a bit of it. There is only 1 Par 5 and 5 Par 3s resulting in the reduced yardage but this is a very good challenge of golf.
The first 3 holes are reasonably tame and shortish Par 4s but a nice way to get a feel for the course. You then move on to the 4th Hole which is the most stunning Par 3 you could imagine.
Ahead of my visit, I was also slightly concerned about whether the course would be too dry and baked (as a number of courses are at the moment) due to the long run of dry, hot weather - again, this was not an issue. The greens were beautiful, comfortably allowed a pitchmark and putted beautifully.
On to the scenery. The drive in takes you through the Peak District with fantastic views in and out of beautiful towns (obviously slightly different depending on which direction you come from).
The course itself is simply beautiful from the actual golf course to the rolling hills around the course.
Highly recommended, cannot wait to go back.
We played in the Bridget Newall Mixed Open at Cavendish on 08 July 2018. The Open was not particularly well supported by entrants but particularly by Cavendish. Cards were collected from the Pro Shop and Instructions were written on a blackboard. There was no starter and at the end a box was on the bar for cards. In spite of indicating on the blackboard that scores would be on the website they are not 24 hours later. There are no toilets on the course and no provision was made for people to get extra drinks part way round in spite of temperatures in high 20s. The only food available was hot beef or pork sandwiches with gravy and roast potatoes. The lack of any obvious effort to make this an enjoyable outing for competitors leads us to the conclusion that it was just a cash generator for the club. We will not be entering again which is a shame because it is a really good course even in such dry conditions.
A great course in really good condition,a wonderful example of a Mckenzie designed course.Very friendly members.Probably the best course i have played in Derbyshire cannot recommend enough.Great value for money, stunning scenery and greens tricky and subtle but superb condition.A great place. All in all superb.

played cavendish again in the early sunshine of april 2018, picture postcard scnery and course in great condition given the previous weeks of rain, brilliant.
(Round played: Apr 2018 - Score: 101 Handicap: 23.3)
Lovely course; great green complexes and surfaces. It has some magic holes as you play around the fantastic scenery of the steep sided hills around you. There are a few streams too; which add to the scenery. I have played 27 of the top 100 courses in England so far and this is my favourite.
(Round played: Oct 2017 - Score: 102 Handicap: 23)
Will play this again for sure, variety of holes with difficult bunkers make this great challenge to play
(Round played: Aug 2017 - Score: 94 Handicap: 22.5)
Great course always plays well, greens fast and true, Bunkers lacking sand
(Round played: Aug 2017 - Score: 74 Handicap: 5.6)
Played in an open AMAM and it was simply stunning. The greens are a challenge and becoming legendary - fast, true and wickedly undulating, get the wrong side and you are stuffed. The fairways are very well shaped and defined and the rough will correctly punish a wild shot.
Friendly pro shop reception, the starter was very welcoming, we spoke to a number of other groups who were all shaking their heads at the challenging putting whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves. Had a great pint and a good meal in the bar that is part way through a refurbishment that has brought a more modern feel to the club and definitely a step forward.
One of the rare courses you play and remember every hole.
We arrived late, (Manchester traffic & Sat nav combo)
Lady in pro shop very understanding and helpful.. Thank you
Course in lovely condition
Fairways, greens, bunkers all very good..
No easy holes, for short hitters like myself..
Course not long, but feels like it.. Very hilly and a good walk..
Not a complaint btw..
Unfortunately due to early lateness couldn't enjoy facilities..
Well worth playing ?
