Avoid until coursework finishes

I had the misfortune to book through playmore golf only to find out that the 18 holes was more like 13. Parts of The course are like a building site just at the moment, rest is fairly muddy with shortened holes , forward winter matts and several winter greens on the remaining holes that are open . This course was on my must play list but very disappointing experience today and certainly not a good advert for a Top 100 England course . Personally I do not think it should be open to visitors at moment.
I’m sure it’s completely different in Summer but one to avoid until course is fully operational again. To be fair the club refunded the green fee cost but to be honest it was a waste of a day out in January when I could have had a far better game somewhere else.

Cavendish

Heavy rain meant course in poor condition. Very scenic and would probably be excellent in good weather.

We recently entered the mixed amam and although we enjoyed the course generally the greens were in very poor condition. There was no starter and very little food choice so probably wont return

Open run purely as money generator

We played in the Bridget Newall Mixed Open at Cavendish on 08 July 2018. The Open was not particularly well supported by entrants but particularly by Cavendish. Cards were collected from the Pro Shop and Instructions were written on a blackboard. There was no starter and at the end a box was on the bar for cards. In spite of indicating on the blackboard that scores would be on the website they are not 24 hours later. There are no toilets on the course and no provision was made for people to get extra drinks part way round in spite of temperatures in high 20s. The only food available was hot beef or pork sandwiches with gravy and roast potatoes. The lack of any obvious effort to make this an enjoyable outing for competitors leads us to the conclusion that it was just a cash generator for the club. We will not be entering again which is a shame because it is a really good course even in such dry conditions.

Nice course. The start eases you in with a few basic side by side holes but with great views over the valley. The second green is tricky. There is a delightful par three and then it is off up the hill. The course is well kept and interesting. Some unexpected course design hits in which is not on the card back nine so watch out, you may need to leave the driver in the bag on par 4, unsure if the distances were correct as I over hit everything. Not cheap. The course is also a strong walk.

I played Cavendish on a bright sunny Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed my round. The course itself is well looked after and set in the rolling Derbyshire hills... in fact some of the holes go UP some of the said hills!
The course is challenging enough with some tricky hazards and tee boxes. The fairways are cut tight and reward the long, accurate drive while the rough is a real reason to stay in regulation.
The greens are multi-levelled and reading putt line and speed is difficult.
The clubhouse is great with a terrace offering fantastic views back up the long 18th.
While I enjoyed my round I was thankful we had decided to hire a buggy on such a hot day... particularly given the mountainous slopes of the course.
I will play Cavendish again but there are better courses at competitive prices in the area.
