What the club says: Buxton & High Peak Golf Club, formed in 1887 and designed by J. Morris, is the oldest club in Derbyshire. The course overlooks the old Roman spa town with superb views over the Peak District National Park. The course is based on free draining limestone, and is certainly one of the most consistently playable in the area. Often influenced by the prevailing winds, the 5,997 yard par 69 course provides members and visitors with a challenging and enjoyable test of golf. Although set some 1100 feet above sea level, the course is not subjected to arduous hill climbs. The Clubhouse overlooks the first and eighteenth fairways and provides a bar, lounge and excellent catering facilities with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Windy
Good course in very good condition. Some unexpected holes but all round very manageable holes. But wind really comes into play so have to consider it with every shotReviewer Rating

Dry!!
High ground equals dryer fairways. There was only a couple of winter greens reported but about half a dozen pins cut on what would best be described as the apron to the green. Fairways were generally good considering the amount of rain we’ve had. Way better than our local courses. Windy day but we expected it. Just glad to be out on a course.Reviewer Rating

Not too hilly
Lovely course set up quite wide and so not too difficult for first time visitors. Only a couple of tricky tee shots where target area is blind. Course in great condition and pace of play was great. Good course, better on a Thursday
We played this course as a warm up for Cavendish in the afternoon and we certainly enjoyed it a lot. The course meanders between busy roads and has some really challenging holes and some straight forward ones. Look out for hole 4 which is edged by a busy road which for anyone with a fade is going find really worrying. Lots of holes over quarry type land and a couple of interesting par 3's. Apparently on Thursday's this course is ?10 a round, which would be a bargain. In reality it is a nice course, but for the money there are better ones in the local area like Chapel en le Frith for example. Get it for ?10 and you will be very happy !Reviewer Rating

In great condition whilst others struggle
Took advantage of ?10 Thursday offer (again). Worth checking how busy course is beforehand (if a single player like myself). Today was no issues. Previous week I was stuck behind a sloooow society.Friendly greeting - all aspects of course in great condition bearing in mind recent wet weather. Download the hole-by-hole crib notes !
One small gripe - 2 winter greens were in use although website did not reflect that. It may have been on board at clubhouse and I just missed it. Perhaps a sign at relevant tee-box - "winter green in use" - may be beneficial.
I have courses closer, but worth the 45min drive for great value for money

An unexpected delight!
My only previous experience of BHPGC was driving through the course on the A6 into Buxton on many occasions. Nothing I saw from the road has ever enticed me to go and play there. For the last year however, I have been a member at nearby Cavendish, happy to make the 30 minute drive over Long Hill from my home in Stockport to play golf each week on such a great course. Many of my friends at Cavendish are former members at High Peak, and all speak highly of that course too.
Yesterday I put right my omission and played BHPGC in the Henriques Putter, a competition held jointly for members of the two Buxton clubs.
I was absolutely bowled over by the course. The layout makes outstanding use of very interesting golfing terrain, with the limestone bedrock making itself plain in the micro-undulations to be found throughout, particularly in the fabulous stretch from holes 4-6. The turf quality throughout the course is excellent, and it really does feel that you are playing on a seaside links.
The greens were excellent - although not as tricky as the legendary Cavendish greens they were a total pleasure to putt on and ran very true.
The only downsides I could identify are the slight remoteness of the clubhouse from the course and its lack of outside sitting area, together with the busy A6 which must be crossed twice at some peril, and which provides an unfortunate aural backdrop on a few holes.
All in all I absolutely loved High Peak, and will be back for sure. Scoring 79 (net 66) probably helped my assessment!
Anyone planning a golfing break should put Buxton at the top of their list. It's a lovely town with plenty of affordable accommodation, a wide range of excellent restaurants and bars, and two great golf courses. The combination of Cavendish and High Peak will delight all discerning golfers.

great course. greens in great condition for April (in fact for any time, they were fast, dry and well cut) cheap as chips, £10 on a Thursday!!!!! all n all a great course, no practice facilities is a minus but next door is the Peak Practice so you can always drive past the course, go and have a practice and then drive the 2 minutes back!!!(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 93 Handicap: 14.7)

A Mixed Bag
great course, stradding the busy A6, which seriously helps you focus on blocking out noise! Next time anyone moans when you undo the velcro on your glove as they are about to putt tell them to go and play here!!!! A gem of a course though, fairways in great nick as were the tricky greens. holes 4, 5 and 6 seem to have been plucked from an Ayrshire links course and dropped in amongst the parkland and then on hole 7 it's back to parkland. Some very open fairways and some very tight. All in all a great course and all for a tenner on a Thursday!!!!!(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 91 Handicap: 15.9)

Enjoyable and challenging course
Don'tt be fooled by the less than 6000 yards and par 69 stats of this course. The undulating fairways, quarry hazards (explained to me by the Pro before I set out), blind shot requirements, dog legs and tricky par 3's will certainly test your skill. The course is maintained to a very high standard and sloping, tiered greens will definitely test your putting but run true and fair. A thoroughly enjoyable round of golf with plenty of variety to challenge your game.(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 91 Handicap: 17

'Enjoyable But Tough'
Played this course in a competition last week and although it was tough due to the wind and ridiculous pin placements it was a good day.The course was in great condition considering the recent wet weather and the greens although very challenging due to the pin placements were very good.
It was the first time that I had played the course and it is one that you need to plot your way around with lots of hidden surprises if you just decide to hit driver all day.
Lots of severe slopes on the greens make it essential to be on the right side of the hole otherwise you will be putting through the fringe from off the putting surface.
If a course planner is available then I would suggest that you invest in one !
In summary this is a course that makes you think and although it is not ridiculously long it is a challenge with some well protected par three holes and quite a few par fours that are well over 400 yards and into a strong wind.
Good course and would recommend.
