Worst course in this part of the world

Book this today for my son's 9th birthday. 9.28am tee time. We had no breakfast because we assumed, as the adverts for societies etc said, there would be bacon rolls/full English/coffee available. Turned up at 8.20. Pro shop closed. Club main doors closed. Side door to bar was open, so i went in and asked if there was any food on.

Membership £810 plus £500 booking fee, this place, by the way.

Went over to the practice ground. Practice ground is flat for the first 10 yards then it's so downhill that your shots are blind. No good when picking up your balls and someone else is hitting into you not even knowing you're there.

Warmed up, mooched back over to the club. Still no lass in the bar, but i managed to get a coffee from some machine. Zero food though, 9.10am now.

The practice putting green is so severely sloped that that's no straight putt on it and every putt is either massively down or uphill. Doesn't make for getting your feel before the round.

The actual course, a big pile of meh. No real holes to remember and several that were just annoyingly uphill. Greens were fine. Bunkers either no sand or far too much sand. Fairways and rough very patchy in places. Holes full of water despite being in a very dry spell nearing June.

Overall, for £40 each for a round (1 adult and 1 junior) midweek, the course is an absolute disgrace and i would never play there again. The only good thing is a friendly pro and very well stocked pro shop.

This course and the facilities is worth no more than £20 a round midweek, but because it's in the affluent Castle Eden they get away with what they charge like absolute bandits.

Worst course in this part of the north east, when compared to Hartlepool, Seaton Carew, Sharpley and Seaham.

Would not play again.

Very nice course, well looked after with work being done regularly to keep a good standard of course for all players. Some greens a little bumpy so a slight roller to help flatten back out. Very friendly and welcoming staff in a very clean and nice club house and shop.

Testing course in County Durham

Castle Eden has always had a good reprutation as a fantastic local course in our area. The course is treelined with some very testing holes. There is no water on the course, but there is drainage diches that are well marked around the course. It's resonably priced with a well stocked 19th and excellent food. You'll be welcomed by staff and members alike,

If you can get sogned in by a member its worth every penny of £17. Not sure its worth the £35 standard green fee. Lovely course with a great layout of holes. Very enjoyable.

Played this course nearly every year for the past 10 years however the course appears to be in constant decline. Very disappointed this year, the worst I have ever seen it. Certainly not worth the money and think we will be missing this one out next year.

It was a beautiful day and this course is a great place to play on a beautiful day. It was very well kept. It has great rolling fairways and excellent fast greens. It is a classic parkland style course in a great situation. It has it's fair share of interesting holes but without any standing out as great golf holes. The clubhouse is very nice with good changing facilities. As usual the people around the club were very friendly and helpful and it does a great bacon butty. Only real downside was that it did not take the 2fore1 vouchers which we use on our trips so it may be a while before we return to the delights of castle eden but we will be back again some day.
