What The Club Says
Hidden among the towering canopy of Staffordshire's Cannock Forest, this Herbert Fowler classic stands proudly alongside his other English master-pieces - Saunton, Walton Heath and The Berkshire to name but a few. The beauty of Beau Desert is hard to describe as, with only the occasional passing Stag as a critic of your ability to master the rolling fairways and testing greens, you will enjoy both a sense of isolation and peacefulness here allowing you to focus on your game and enjoy your visit to the full.

Belting track
Great track, played in an open event and you can tell it's a level above most courses. Every hole has got something about it and all the par 3s whilst not being overly long present a real challenge. Happy to go back. Only reason I've put a 9 for course conditions is because of the dry weather we've had the course is a bit yellow but that's really not the courses fault.Reviewer Rating

The layout is excellent, and it was in very good condition. The greens are extremely challenging — fast, tricky to read, and exactly what you’d expect from a course of this quality. The fairways demand accuracy, but one frustration was that even a well-struck drive could easily run off into gorse or heather, which proved very penal and made scoring difficult. That said, it certainly tests every part of your game. What let the experience down, unfortunately, was the clubhouse and facilities. After finishing our round around 8pm, we found the clubhouse, bar, and even the changing rooms locked. This was especially frustrating as our golf shoes were inside, meaning we’ll have to return just to collect them. To add to the disappointment, the bar being closed meant we couldn’t even enjoy a drink afterwards and had to head to a local pub instead.
Overall, the golf itself was excellent, but the post-round experience really fell short for a club of this standing. Hopefully, this is something they address, as the course deserves facilities and service to match its quality.

Worst greens we have played on
A group of 9 of us had booked several months in advance)to play recently. I received an email 3 days before we were due to play advising that they had an outbreak of Fusarium and quote -‘the greens continue to improve steadily. Ball roll remains true overall and reasonably quick, though you may notice some patchy or inconsistent areas’
I called and spoke to the pro who said they weren’t too bad (in what I learned later was a scripted response).
This was massively understated. The greens were terrible- lots of bare patches, bone dry and bumpy.
Totally spoilt our day.
They twice reduced the green fee from £115, first to £100 (notified in the email) and further to £85 on the day.
If they had been truthful we would not have played it for any money. Disgraceful.

Not worth it at the moment
I payed at this course in an NCG event on the 6th May 2025 and whilst I enjoyed the course the condition of the greens was shocking. We were advised of an attack of fusarium but were told that the greens, although patchy, still ran true. However this was not really the case. In order to reduce the effect of the patchiness the greens were cut really short, they were really dry and the ball bobbled all over the place. Until this is sorted out I would not consider this course worth the green fee and it spoilt the experience significantly. I did enjoy the layout and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I would pay again, but only once this has been dealt with effectively.Reviewer Rating
