Great but very challenging

Been lucky each of the 3 times I've played here weather wise. Can't imagine playing it in wind and worse! I'm not generally a big links fan, but some really nice holes here. Great conditioned greens and course very well kept.

Not so hidden gem

What can be said about Silloth Golf Club, probably nothing that hasn't already been said.
A terrific experience, from start to finish. Played two days, one flat calm, one windy, just like playing two different golf courses.
Set amongst the dunes, even the busy course traffic on Sunday, didn't detract from the feeling you were in your own little private golf course. A fantastic mix of holes, tough and tricky par 3s, thought provoking par 4s, and hit it big, open par5s.
All in all a wonderful golfing experience.
Just go play.

Silloth was an absolute joy to play today with the calm sunny conditions helping. However, the course layout and conditioning is, in my opinion, every bit as good as some big name Ayrshire courses but at less than half the green fee.

The course was in excellent condition and provided us with a tough challenge. Some beautiful views which made the course special. As expected if you did not hit the fairways there was a good chance that your ball was lost. Members and staff made us very welcome.

You will not find a better value for money course in the country. You CANNOT get away with anything that is just slightly of line and you need to think your way around the course or it will make a fool of you. I loved this course so much as it tested my golfing brain and challenges you not take to many risks. So much so I have just been accepted as a member.

Very good course, challenging too

Loved it here and it was the best course I?d played until I played Trevose. I would play here again. Some tough challenging holes and set up fair, stray badly and you get what you deserve yet well rewarded for accuracy. The greens were quick even after some recent rain, which I was told slowed the course, I'm glad it did!!
Highly recommended

Hidden gem very fair test greens awesome true links hunkering a few blind shots that give it the real authentic links feel. Light breeze seems like a game in exposed tees and fairways but a great links course and test of the golfers ability to adapt.

No flat putt!

This is a superb course, challenging & tight in places & uses the contours well to make some really interesting holes.
It's in superb condition, the greens run true, but look out for all the slopes & borrows. I don't think there's a flat putt on the course!
The hospitality was good & for ?10 at 7am on Golfnow, unbelievable value. Plus there was no one else out there.

Tough in the wind

Firstly I have to say this is a superb golf course. A classic links layout of out & back with some stunning holes.
The course is superb & the greens are excellent.
A February deal of 18 holes & a two course meal for £35 was superb.
The day we played, it was raining with 30mph winds, which made it really tough, but I loved it. I've got to come back to try it in better weather.

An interesting trip

Playing as visitors on or way back to Manchester from St Andrews we decided to take the detour to Silloth. We stood in the pro-shop for 10 minutes listening to 2 members berate the pro on why visitors shouldn't be allowed to play (before introducing ourselves). To be fair, the pro apologised and gave us a comprehensive overview of the course, local rules & some hints/tips. The course was 'good' overall - not sure it's as good as some of the ratings it gets on various websites, but worth the trip for the views on the front nine.

Well worth taking the time to get here!

Had heard good things about this course and finally made it across. The stand out feature for me was the greens, they were fast and true without a hollow tone, sand or bobble in sight. The rest of the course is true links. Playing the front 9 predominantly away from the clubhouse into a 2/3 club wind is tricky but if you stick with it the back 9 with the wind allows you to score well.

Take the time to visit and you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic links golf experience.
