What The Club Says
Stony Holme Golf Course is an award winning 18 hole pay as you play golf course located only 5 minutes from the centre of Carlisle. The course features no less than two rivers and is a great mixture of tight tree lined fairways and tricky shots over and around water.

Vast Improvement
As a member of this course i feel my review is true and accurate. The course was taken over recently by a wonderful couple who have made many changes, with more to come.
Its July, and the course is looking superb.
Re designed bunkers have been added but are yet to see any new sand which is a shame, so are currently GUR.
In my opinion the only thing letting this course down is the people, as in groups of mainly lads, say four or five with only 2 or 3 sets of clubs, no golf etiquette at all, this needs stopped asap with the employment of a warden, especially now its school holiday times, why should us member pay when others sneak on for free?
The Clubhouse is a real asset offering great food and drinks, with a terrace overlooking the first tee it can be daunting for some when hitting their first shot!
Keep up the great work

The course which we have played before is very well laid out.Unfortunately very badly looked after.
The fairways were like a first cut of rough and considering we have had a week of uninterrupted sunshine there are no excuses.
The rough between the trees is knee high and as there are over a thousand trees on the course they are enough of a hazard.
The greens were full of dandelions which could have been easily removed.
We have played 4 different courses over the last three weeks and none of them cost ?30 and all were in better condition.

Welcome back.
We were here a month ago, lost a few balls in the undergrowth, glad to say things are improving and the course seems to be getting a lot of TLC. We had a warm welcome at reception and were able to play the full 18 holes. A number of other people on the course but no hold ups. A couple of tricky holes but did a lot better than our visit in June.Reviewer Rating

Rubbish
This is my local course and I play the every week. It was badly flooded 2yrs ago and has never recovered. He clubhouse reopened two weeks ago but no pro or shop. The greens keepers are council grass cutters who regularly damage the greens by cutting when they are soaking and turning on the edge of the greens with the blades still down gouging lumps out. Also the drainage is silted and blocked meaning a day of rain and your struggling in mud for a week. I regularly have to take a 5 iron of the tee, as a well struck driver will disappear in the mud in the middle of a fairway. This used to be a fairly decent municipal course, it’s now barley playable, not enjoyable and certainly not worth the £20+ they will be charging for a weekend round.Reviewer Rating

Fees gone up again with nothing to show for it. Ditches dug for drainage 2 years ago have still not been filled in.
