The Best Golf Courses to Play in Scotland For Under £100
Scotland is the spiritual heartland of golf, and many of its courses have gone down in legend and enjoy almost a mythical status. That has consequently made them expensive for visiting golfers to play, but there is another tier of venues in the nation that offer a memorable, rewarding experience without the accompanied eye-watering green fee.
We have gone through the Golfshake Course Section, which is home to thousands of independent reviews, to discover the locations recommended by other golfers that can be played for under £100 during the peak months of summer.
This is by no means an exhaustive list - it's a topic that we shall revisit - but this gives you a flavour of what makes Scottish golf special beyond just the biggest and most famous names.
If you think there are courses that should feature more prominently, then the way to accomplish that is by submitting a positive review for them! We have also excluded some places that do not share their green fees online, or who choose to only reveal them once you're going through the booking process, which is a pet peeve of this Scottish golfer.
However, the following selection is varied, including classic links courses, spectacular Highland scenery, and tracks that are within easy reach of Scotland's major cities.
It's time for you to meet some of the best golf courses to play in Scotland under £100!

Southerness Golf Club
Location: Southerness, Dumfries & Galloway
Golfshake Rating: 4.63
Green Fees: £75 (After 5pm)
Review Comment: "Super course and a real coastal treat. A flat (ish) links which meanders away from the coast for first few holes (around a cow field) but then routes back to a fabulous 12th hole which has one of the best views you will ever encounter. A tough finish if the wind is coming off the Solway Coast from 14-17 especially with the more accessible par 5 18th back to the clubhouse providing a little reward for resilience on the back 9. Go and enjoy it like we did on a calm July evening."
Kings Golf Club Inverness
Location: Inverness, Highlands
Golfshake Rating: 4.62
Green Fees: £85, £40 (After 4pm)
Review Comment: "Fantastic layout. Condition of the course was excellent. Fairways were generous and fair for all abilities. Greens ran true and reasonably fast. We played on a rain free day and the view from the 12th tee was stunning. Hospitality from the pro shop on arrival to the bar and catering staff in the new clubhouse after our round was very good and welcoming."

Balnagask Golf Course
Location: Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire
Golfshake Rating: 4.61
Green Fees: £33
Review Comment: "This is the second time I have played the course, the first was a few years ago. I really cannot believe that this is a municipal course, the greens are exceptionally good, far better than 90% of private courses in England. The course is not for the fainthearted, a lot of blind crests to play over and as it is quite a compact course, there are several pinch-points where you are playing over a crossing fairway so have to wait for it to be clear, this is especially the case on 15/16/17. The wind can be a real challenge, but the views are spectacular. Well worth a trip and certainly we will be playing it again."
Newbattle Golf Club
Location: Dalkeith, Midlothian
Golfshake Rating: 4.60
Green Fees: £45 (Weekdays), £60 (Weekends)
Review Comment: "Great course. I have played Newbattle quite a few times and it is always in good condition with very fast greens. The members are friendly and the food is very good."

The East Renfrewshire Golf Club
Location: Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire
Golfshake Rating: 4.56
Green Fees: £75 (Weekdays)
Review Comment: "East Renfrewshire has always been a great place to play, but the improvements they have made over the last few years have really enhanced the course. No two consecutive holes are the same, and only two holes go in the same direction one after the other, which provides a real varied challenge. The greens are as good as anything I've played recently, and the views from some of the tees are outstanding. It doesn't feel cramped like some courses, and the clubhouse patio is a great place to watch people playing down the 18th. Highly recommended."
West Linton Golf Club
Location: West Linton, Peeblesshire
Golfshake Rating: 4.55
Green Fees: £70 (Weekends), £60 (Weekdays), £50/£45 (After 3pm)
Review Comment: "Hidden gem. I've played it a few times now and it never disappoints. I took eight others up there as a stop on our way to play around Edinburgh and everyone loved it. A good mix of long and shorter holes that you have to think about. And we have always had a very friendly welcome whether that be from staff or members."
Dunfermline Golf Club
Location: Dunfermline, Fife
Golfshake Rating: 4.54
Green Fees: £68 (Weekdays), £45 (Weekdays After 4pm), £78 (Weekends)

Eyemouth Golf Club
Location: Eyemouth, Borders
Golfshake Rating: 4.53
Green Fees: £45 (Weekdays), £49.95 (Weekends)
Review Comment: "This is a coastal links course really worth a visit. I don't play much links golf but this was very good. Some very long holes and some low cliff-edge holes that will punish a wayward drive. The signature hole is the par 3 6th which tees off across a sea gorge. It's only 100 yards across open water and rocks but it does look daunting when you stand on the tee for the first time."
Forbes of Kingennie Golf Course
Location: Kingennie, Angus
Golfshake Rating: 4.52
Green Fees: From £42
Review Comment: "Great course with every hole giving a different challenge. Excellent course with fairways and greens in peak condition."
And we have one bonus course to add by popular demand...
Shiskine Golf & Tennis Club

Review Comment: "Simply 12 holes of unadulterated joy. How links golf should be. Not a dull hole on the course. Fabulous blind shots, great mix of holes, just get to Arran and play this place. Great little pro shop and clubhouse. All positives."
