Classic Moorland

East Ren is a classic out and back Moorland course to the south of Glasgow. The James Braid layout from 1922 is largely unchanged today, save for a few thousand trees that were planted in the in 1970s. \\The course flows nicely through undulating ground with several classic raised tees and raised greens that are synonymous with Braid design. \\The course is a strategic challenge with several holes requiring a tactical tee shot to a certain side of the fairway and 2 par 5s that will give many players a decision to make with their 2nd shot.\\Holes 17 and 18 are long and tough holes, that are conducive of layouts during the matchplay era where the finishing holes were designed to favour the stronger players. \\The course is generally kept in great order with well maintained fairways and greens and plenty of upgrades and winter projects ongoing to improve the drainage, bunkering and remove some trees.

A good test of your game and course kept in good condition. A good chance of shooting a round on a good day.

Best moorland course in the area certainly. Each hole is different with its own character. Some spectacular holes and while being a real challenge is rarely unfair. Not recommended for novices. Only downside was the guy in the pro-shop who was rude, everyone else was lovely.

Played this with a society in mid August. Thought it a cracking course with lots of interesting and challenging holes. A couple of weakish holes around the turn and being hyper critical, the greens could have been better (some moss and course moorland grasses in them), but a thouroughly enjoyable experience. The views were stunning and given its so close to the M77, you would hardly have known. Meal in clubhouse was good too, a most enjoyable days golf.
