What The Club Says

West Linton is a conservation village situated 13-miles and 20-minutes south of Edinburgh on the A702. The Club was formed in 1890 by the local schoolmaster Robert Millar, whose vision and energy created the original nine hole course. In 1926, renowned course architect James Braid provided advice on the improvement of the course and many of his ideas were put into place in succeeding years. However, it was not until 1972, when additional land became available, that the course was extended to 18 holes. It is now recognised as one of the finest courses in the area and is part of the James Braid Golf Trail.

Great golfing day out

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of competing in the West Linton Mixed 4BBB. I must confess that I have not played here for thirty-five years as the members I played with then have moved on, like myself, so I had a vague memory of the course.
Well, the course is absolutely superb and for those of you that do not support the Clubs Open Events, or as a visitor, you are missing out on a great golfing day, this is a must in your golfing diary.
My qualifications, I am 73, playing off 8.1, best h’cap was 2, in the day, but I started with five straight pars, then went bogey, double-bogey, annoying.
The course was in first class condition and the greens were fast and true, the fairways had a good growth offering good lies, the first cut rough was fair, but the ‘deep rough’ would be a nightmare, but the fairways were very generous and if you found yourself in the deep stuff, then you need a driving lesson.
Nice and friendly staff, but the price of the food was frightening, Scamp & Chips = £10, Ten Pounds? Down the East Lothian coast it costs £18 just for a burger, definitely underselling, at least £15.
So all you visitors planning a visit to the area, make sure you put West Linton Golf Club on your schedule, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful but long par 4's

A beautiful course set amidst parkland and trees with some long par 4's. Great condition, excellent clubhouse and facilities. A very warm welcome with delicious catering. A good value for money visit and one to definitely take in.

Hidden gem.

Cracking moorland course just off the A702 south of Edinburgh. I've played it a few times now and it never disappoints. I took 8 others up there as a stop on our way to play around Edinburgh and everyone loved it. They have also closed the course behind me when heavy snow was forecast and it was still in great nick. A good mix of long and shorter holes that you have to think about. And we have always had a very friendly welcome whether that be from staff or members.

Great course in fantastic condition

Played this course a few times and it has always been a nice course, however this time it was in the best condition i have seen. Fairways and greens are great. Food was also really tasty too.

An absolute gem of a course

An absolute gem of a course set in lovely surroundings. Very nicely laid out and in great condition. Clubhouse, shop, staff and catering were all excellent. A very much enjoyed visit to this part of Scotland.

A testing course

A lovely and testing course, very pretty, lots of trees and long rough to avoid. Some up and downs and blind shots make for a thought provoking game. Lovely old clubhouse, very welcoming, nice food. Pity the very wet conditions didn't do the course its full justice.
