What the club says: Balnagask (Nigg Bay) Golf Club is a challenging coastal course with many hills, situated within a nature conservation area on the small Balnagask Headland which is packed with at least 18 historical and archaeological sites including the lighthouse built in 1833 and designed by Robert Stevenson. The adjacent 9 hole pitch and putt is a good choice for beginners or those wanting a quick game. All holes are par 3, but due to the hilly location are still quite challenging and good for practising your short game.
Most Helpful Review
I cant complain about this course at all, the Tee's, Fairways & Greens are immaculate, a credit to the staff !! Some say their are to many hills and blind holes but for me this is what makes it unique. A tough trek on the legs but if you can keep the ball straight, a better player can leave their driver at home as you have to think your way round this course, laying up most holes. I have played many courses in Aberdeen and throughout Scotland but for a municiple course the greens really are a credit to the club, and at £15 per round midweek it proves that with the right calibre of staff and knowledge you dont have to join an overpriced private golf club to play and enjoy golf at a high standard. - Jun 19 2012
Golf Course Reviews for Balnagask (Nigg Bay) Golf Club
Despite the long dry spell the course is green and in superb condition. The greenkeepers are always in evidence and they do a fantastic job with everyone very friendly.
The course is hilly with a number of blind holes and the wind off the sea is usually an added challenge. A bonus of playing the course is the all round views of the city, the harbour, the sea and the beach.
Well worth a visit

The standard they keep this course in is second to none. Excellent course with brilliant views.

Probably played Balnagask 20 times during the last years. Always in splendid condition, challaging holes, senic views! Looking forward to my next round this Easter???????????
For a municipal course the condition is exceptional. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the views of the harbour city beach and sea a bonus that are worth visiting for alone.
For the cost an absolute bargain
in great nick.many nearby courses closed for rain damage but balnagask was dry and in great condition.tremendous municipal course.
For ?15 a real opportunity to play a true Links course. Be prepared for a lesser standard of bunker and to an extent green, but perfectly playable and value for money. Council operated but reasonably well maintained, the selection of holes will compensate for the shortcomings

Balnagask is a municipal golf course in Aberdeen at the mouth of the River Dee and situated overlooking the harbour, the sea front and the sea. I haven't played this course much in the past but it is starting to become a favourite with me.
The course is very hilly, with undulating fairways which leads to a lot of blind shots however there are lots of directional marker poles. The course is well looked after and the fairways and greens are in excellent condition. The course is not too long but still has some challenging holes, my favourite being the par 5 tenth.
The thing I like most is that it is always seems easy to get a round, just turn up and tee off ! Possibly this is because a lot of people may be put off by the challenging nature of the hills and you certainly need to e fit to get yourself round.
All in all a very good course with great views.
Winter greens are a challenge but summer greens look superb. Roll on summer
