What the club says: Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in Aberdeen, Scotland, was founded in 1780 as the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen and became the Aberdeen Golf Club in 1815. Until 1888 members played on the Queen's Links close to the city before moving across the River Don to the links at Balgownie. The Course was originally designed by the Simpson Brothers, Archie and Robert of Carnoustie and later re-bunkered and lengthened by James Braid. Hawtree & Company are now engaged as the Club's architects to ensure our classic links keeps pace with the modern game.
What Golfshake says: Elegant, traditional, classic… three words to describe a links course that makes it clear from the outset that it was founded in 1780. And why wouldn’t you when you have such a rich history… and such a fine golf course to back it up.
Royal Aberdeen is the classic ‘out-and-back’ layout, which typically means the wind might be kind for half the holes and simply cruel on the other. The front nine runs closest to the North Sea and has more protection, weaving low between the dunes. Sweetly routed fairways roll like an ocean swell and greens and flags are always visible. There is little room for error.
At the turn, you slip inland where the landscape rises above the opening holes. Not much, but enough to give you views, both out to sea and towards Aberdeen. The fairways on the back nine are less chaotic in shape, but flags are still visible and greens still deceptively tricky to find, with strong, deep bunkering.

Top 20 Course in GB and I
Breathtaking front 9. Club has a fearsome reputation for its traditionalism. Do not let that put you off. They welcome visitors warmly. An ace on the 8th will inevitably lead me to suggesting it's the best par 3 in Scotland!

nice little test

Historical links course
A wonderful links course with some very narrow fairways. The front nine is tough but the back nine is more gentle. The greens were good but not great. Lovely Clubhouse and a warm welcome. A course you need to play again to know your way around.(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 78 Handicap: 4.1)

The third hole (par 3) needs a driver to reach the green if the wind is blowing like it was when I played. Beautiful course especially the front 9. First 4 holes are a killer though so don't get too dishearted if you have a bad start!
(Round played: May 2016 - Score: 103 Handicap: 22.7)

(Round played: Apr 2013 - Score: 99 Handicap: 20.6)

(Round played: Dec 2011 - Score: 85 Handicap: 10.2)
