What the club says: McKenzie Ross's brilliant design has been complemented by an excellent Head Greenkeeper and staff, who have now had a settled period of several years together which has brought the course into tip top condition. This has been recognised by "Golf Monthly", who have included Southerness in their list of top 100 courses in Britain and Ireland each year since 1990.
This is a true Championship Links course, measuring 6728 yards from the white (Championship) tees, 6566 from the white tees, 6110 from the yellow tees and 5622 from the red tees.

Lovely classic links
Played here as a one ball, on a Wednesday morning. Met two members, one lady and one gent, who talked me through the way to go and explained anything I needed answering. The course has the classic links look with revetted faced bunkers and gorse and heather. The greens were true and putted very well. The course has five par 3s, ranging in length from 150 yds. to 200 yds., which test all clubs in the bag. The fairways are not too tight, but there is gorse and heather to protect the old girl. All members of staff were pleasant and very helpful.Reviewer Rating

Southerness Championship Links.
Absulute hidden gem, go and putt on the best greens surfaces in Scotland and possibly the UK, full fescue grass, Highest medal tees stroke rating in Scotland but very fair and picturesque with gorgeous views over the Galloway hills and the Solway Firth. Home of the Scottish Amateur match play and Scottish Amateur Stoke Play Championships every 10 years. Weekend and mid-week green fees under £100. Designed by Philip McKenzie Ross of Turnberry fame and the only Championship Links built in the second half of the 20th century in Britain. Can be a bit windy off the Solway on occasion but very mild climate off the Gulf Stream running along the Solway and rairly closed for frost.Reviewer Rating

Classic Links
We played this course in early October 2021. A classic links course. Very flat, lots of gorse and other impenetrable bushes. Wonderful greens. Great layout. I would say that this is one of the best golf courses I have ever played, and a “must play” for any serious golfer.Reviewer Rating

Worth the trip
Played at Southerness for the first time and what a treat it was. Yes, it is off the beaten track, but so worth the drive. Fortunately we had blue skies & no wind, so a rare treat there apparently. Stunning views, course in immaculate condition, challenging par 3s and overall a very enjoyable round. Food, drink and general reception in the pro shop/club house also first class.Reviewer Rating

Great course - Great to be back
Played this with my dad on a lovey summers day with very little wind (which is not normal) I just love this course as I have played it a few times now. Links golf is so much better than my course in Leeds, greens are great, fairways are a real test to hit and views are unreal(Round played: Sep 2020 - Score: 85 Handicap: 15.4)

Typical Scottish links
A typical and beautiful Scottish links set on the coastline. Tricky tight holes with some narrow fairways and tough par 3's. Exceptional shop, clubhouse and facilities. Food and hospitality also very good. A brilliant find and a must play if in the vicinity.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 105 Handicap: 17.2)

Wonderful course & club
Played on a relatively calm day for the most part. Beautiful setting and a great place to play golf. Quite easy to get to from nearby Dumfries. Course was in fantastic condition with plenty of run, hitting irons off most tees which helped to keep the ball in play. Hole 12 was the obvious highlight but there wasn't a bad hole on the course. Welcome was incredibly friendly and the food in the clubhouse was lovely. There were quite a few groups on but the pace of play was perfect. Would definitely play again next time I'm back in Scotland(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 85 Handicap: 18.5)

A fantastic Scottish links set by a beautiful coastline. Very picturesque and a pleasure to play. Some tight holes with plenty of Scottish heather to catch that wayward shot. Beautiful scenery, excellent clubhouse and shop. Practice facilities very good. Staff welcoming and food quality excellent. A definite return to venue. Loved every minute.(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 94 Handicap: 18.7)

Hidden gem
Not the easiest course to get to but wow...it is worth the drive!I found this a great mixture of holes. Short par 3's, long par 3's, short par 5's and long par 4's. Every hole offered a different challenge and was in excellent condition for the time of year.
Friendly clubhouse staff and really good food at the end of the round. I was surprised to find that I enjoyed playing Southerness far more than some more heralded courses I have played. I will return!
