What the club says: Colvend Golf Club was founded in 1905. The principal architect was Willie Fernie. Colvend golf course was re-designed in 1985 by architect Dave Thomas. It was extended to 18 holes in May 1997. Our significantly testing eighteen hole parkland layout is situated on the gorgeous Solway Coast, conveniently located near to Dumfries, Southerness (with its holiday villages), Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie with views over the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian Fells and, on a good day, offering a glimpse of the Isle of Man. Some of the holes offer challenging water features, and tree lined fairways abound. We are particularly proud of our large Oak and other hardwood trees, many of which are a significant feature of some of the holes.

Great course. Challeging holes. Slowed up by four in front and we were holding up two pairs behind who fortunately were very understanding. Food not great as there was a large queue when we finished and my cheeseburger was like concrete.

As always a warm and friendly welcome.
The course was in good condition for the time of year; greens were a bit slow, but again as expected at this time of year (mid-March) they were however consistent.
The course itself is interesting with great views from the upper holes and varied from hole to hole and challenging in a good way for your average club golfer

Great course and great staff

spent a week on holiday at Barend and played this course four times. Peter the Steward was fantastic with his loan of clubs and nice welcome. Would strongly recommend any visitor to the area to try this course as it's challenging and interesting, plus the warm welcome.

Don't miss this cracking little course

This is a lovely course and you will receive the warmest of welcomes. Some fantastic hidden holes to negotiate and a beautiful setting. This course is a bit out of the way but well worth tracking it down, you won't be disappointed.

Colvend is a course myself and Son decided to come up from Leeds for the day to play. We have played it a few times. It never ceases to amaze, the views are truly stunning. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the course was in top condition with the greens running quick but true. I would highly recommend the course to anyone.

Easily overlooked, but this course delivers great golf all year round, superb scenery, excellent service and the best value for money in the South West of Scotland. A highly addictive course you will want to keep coming back to. In fact, just signed up for country membership to get best value for my next trips down to the area.

Course generally played well.Unfortunate that some greens have had some damage due to the severe flooding. However they are on the mend and are starting to improve nicely due to the great efforts of the staff.Would recommend.

Played this course 13/3/14 as I was staying in the area for a few days , the day before I played Southerness so I was unsure wether I would enjoy it after playing a Championship course .I was the only player on the course which I found very strange ,as the course is very good at this time of year it was a little wet in places but mostly dry and playing from fairways £15 at this time of year a bargain can only think this course is excellent value at anytime ,I am knew fan

Really nice course in two halves: older front 9 shorter and more varied than newer, longer back 9. Some lovely holes: 8th par 3 over burn, 11th dogleg to green on hill and 17th downhill round the corner inviting a draw. Beautiful scenery and well groomed course (the way ruined cottages and drystane dykes are integrated into the course layout is great) extremely friendly clubhouse staff. Perhaps a little expensive compared to other, similar courses, but still well worth a visit.

I highly recommend Colvend Golf Course. Played with society tournament x 12 of us travelling from all over the UK. Very friendly club in lovely surroundings. The parklands in super condition and each hole provides enough of a challenge for all HC's. Plenty of natural trappings and a view over the Solway Firth is up there with the best especially if the suns out like it was for us. Looking forward to heading up to play again in 2 weeks. Nice butties and bevvies at club house. Look out for the adders too. We saw2 by the 4th hole. If in Dumfries and Galloway put on the agenda.
