The Essex is always worth a visit. A long course, but still fair for higher handicap players off the yellow tees. Course management is key to scoring well and despite it's length, it is not simply a case of taking driver off the tee every time. The greens were in really good nick and were a pleasure to put on. I am not sure the last time the stroke indexes were reviewed, but I would certainly question some of them based on the scores over the weekend.
The club house is fine. Food is good, although the service is a bit slow sometimes - especially if there is a wedding on. The practice facilities are good too. Not cheap, but worth a visit.

It was not the day to judge the course, so much rain and snow recently have flooded it. However, the fact that it was open and playable - if you stuck to the fairways you hardly saw a puddle (sadly i didn't!). The course has a nice layout though with some challenging holes and is very reasonably priced (the pro shop matched the online price). I will definitely be revisiting and cannot wait to see it when it's drier and the trees are full of leaves which I think will make it very picturesque.

Nice course very flat but quite challenging . Was worried when we read there was 10 holes with water hazzard but barely noticed apart from one very big splash !

This is a challenging course but fiar with some tight fairways, water hazards and holes that make you think before you just get your driver out off the tee. Due to inclement weather during the week before the weekend we played, there was lying water on many fairways and some of the bunkers. Some of the greens, especially hole 4 for some reason were not at their best. My biggest gripe though, was the state of some of the tee boxes, which were a disgrace for a course of such supposed standing. Overall, a disappointment and based on the delays at the first tee (45 minutes wait after the supposed pre booked tee off time) it would appear that the course management is only interested in one thing - your money!

The course was in great condition despite the previous days heavy rain, fairways were neat and tidy and the greens ran true although very slow. The course is very long and flat and will test golfers of all abilities, however you'll have to drive the ball well off the tee. Beware, we booked a tee time of 12.52pm on Saturday and due to the large numbers of players booked onto the course we didn't tee off until 1.30pm and proceeded to wait on every shot, 5hrs 25mins for the round was not great!!!!!!!!!!

The Essex is an open and quite flat course which drains very well in wet weather possibly lacks variety in places but is quite forgiving. Club house and pro shop are perfectly good. There is a hotel on site and so there can be societies staying and playing - worth checking when you book.

The course has really come on in recent years. Fairly flat but long, spiced up by use of water hazards. Now a very enjoyable round of golf.

Quite a flate course but with a bit of water about you need to be on your toes. Some deceptively tricky holes.
