What the club says: The Notleys 18 hole course winds back and forth across the river Brain. With strategically placed bunkers and water hazards making for a great challenging game. It is a beautiful, 18 hole, undulating course with natural water hazards from the River Brain.

Not a great course, greens are a mess, owner is very rude despite other staff being very friendly. Lot’s of random blue carpets to cover up dodger cart paths and bridges over the stream which have holes in.

Rough and Ready
A challenging course that is very rough around the edges.Many of the holes feel the same. They are often drive down to a stream and hit back the other side or they are drive over some type of hazard about 100 yards away and then play straight on.
So the challenge is fine to start with but then becomes a bit tiresome and monotonous.
The course condition was okay especially as the cost of the round was pretty cheap.
Biggest issues with course were overgrown bunkers with no sand and the fairways consisted of as much weed as they did grass.
The staff in the clubhouse were very friendly but again the vicinity of it was pretty shabby and in need of TLC.
Overall the course was tough physically and mentally and this wasn’t helped by the fact it could be better maintained.
But for the cost it did the job although it is the sort of place you might want to pay extra for a buggy.

The brain valley experience
This a course that requires a lot of energy and thought.Over a river several times and greens that require a different aproach plan.
We enjoyed the the variety of terrain as it made each hole different.
Not long but challenging must be fit and take your time lovely views.
We will be comming back, members we met were friendly and helpful very nice welcome inthe clubhouse.
Also has footgolf and crazy golf

The course is in a valley, so lots of hills. The river Brain makes it challenging. We enjoyed our round very much coming from a country where most courses are flat ( The Netherlands).\The hospitality is heart warming. Very nice staff!

The fairways needed a cut and the greens were very bobbly. The location means several of the holes are very similar, down to the river, lay up, back up to the green. The up and down meant it was a tiring one for the older golfer. The astroturf cart paths were deadly after overnight rain, two of our party slipped and fell on them. Need a bit of investment.

Tired

The course is very playable, and the fairways and greens are as good as ever. A lot of rough has been cut shorter which opened up the fairways. Work is in progress on the bunkers. Practice
This course should only be used to shake the cobwebs off. The course is poor quality which is really sad. It could be so much better if more care was taken for the course.Staff are friendly, groups of members took a while to let me through.

ditches are challenging
Interesting course up and down hills of the River Brain valley. Ditches and streams are in challenging positions on several holes. Course condition on 17th June was not very good and looks as if it is poorly maintained and being left to deteriorate. Greens were ok but slow and a bit bumpy. 16th tee had no grass and set up to tee off from mat. All bunkers were just mud - no sand.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 110 Handicap: 32.8)

Needs TLC
Club house and surrounding looking a bit run down. We played on grass cutting day and the grass obviously had been very long so lots of big chucks of cut grass on the fairways. Greens in reasonable condition but not very fast.Given the amount of money paid it was good value

Little Gem

If you are new to golf or just want to get out and don't care, this will do a job. If you are working on your game, then maybe give this a miss.Greens are slow and in bad shape. Bunkers have stones and grass/weeds growing in them. Tee boxes are in bad shape and the fairways aren't well maintained. It was possible to lose the balls in the fairway in parts.
Pace of play for a bank holiday was a snails pace but the weather explained it, the members didn't let us play through even though they held us up on every shot. We then let a 2 ball through and they weren't getting through either that I saw.

Presently surprised. Seen some bad reviews but I really liked it. For the price it is good and worth a round. Holes are interesting not just straight up and down holes like some other courses and reasonable price. Its not in tip top condition but for the price is good. Other courses like Benton Hall charging £50 a round is a joke. Try it for yourself.
