played course twice on a society break.The course was in a beautiful condition and the greens were immaculate greens that punished poor putting, they were quick. Tree lined so need to be straight or punished.
Staff welcoming and bar fine.

Worth playing again
Course is well laid out, clear signposting/paths, some really challenging aspects of the holes. The course has more length than others nearby, forcing you to use more clubs.Unfortunately, lots of the greens have pitch marks. That said, some friendly members and a polite and welcoming warden.
The course handled the rain from prior days reasonably well with some patches. I battled through 2 torrential downpours, I don't thing any course could survive that to be honest. Maybe the course should have been closed due to damage to the course.

It;s a long course but in very good condition.Played friday and saturday enjoyed both days.
Recommended for societies.

Loverly little 9 hole.

One of Club Companies excellent courses
As a member of Benton Hall, we often play other Club Companies golf courses. The Essex is close to where we live and we play this on a regular basis.Lot flatter than Benton Hall but has it's own difficult holes. The first is always a difficult start with a lake offering the slice a wet start to a round.
Would certainly recommend a visit.

Super course
Having heard so much about this course, it lived up to its expectation. Course layout was brilliant and in a super condition, even though it rained constantly all day.Some very well placed lakes and tree lined fairways make you think about every tee shot. We didn't see anybody in front of us or behind us all day, which wasade for a better round. I would definitely recommend playing here. Excellent facilities too. Top golf club.

Beautifully designed course which is maintained to a superb standard
From the first tee to the eighteenth green the county course failed to disappoint. The course was maintained to an excellent standard, with pure greens, sandy bunkers and the fairways were consistent and also very well kept. I played pretty well, in part due to the beautiful conditions and great weather, shooting a 4 under 69.Reviewer Rating

Flat challenging course.
Delight to play. Open but not easy by any means and at around 6600 yards, a good work out. Excellent greens with consistent pace. Excellent facilities too(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 93 Handicap: 17.3)
