The course was in great condition despite the previous days heavy rain, fairways were neat and tidy and the greens ran true although very slow. The course is very long and flat and will test golfers of all abilities, however you'll have to drive the ball well off the tee. Beware, we booked a tee time of 12.52pm on Saturday and due to the large numbers of players booked onto the course we didn't tee off until 1.30pm and proceeded to wait on every shot, 5hrs 25mins for the round was not great!!!!!!!!!!

Not a pleasant day. Signposting for golf reception not at all clear. Reception a mess - unsure whether it was a pro-shop, leisure club entrance or hotel lobby. to be fair the course was in very good shape (except for a huge amount of bunkers being GUR) but the club are just being far too greedy with the amount of people on the course. 4h 45mins for a two ball at 1pm on a Saturday! A complete joke that you had to wait to play every single shot. Beware before booking!

Worth playing again

Course is well laid out, clear signposting/paths, some really challenging aspects of the holes. The course has more length than others nearby, forcing you to use more clubs.

Unfortunately, lots of the greens have pitch marks. That said, some friendly members and a polite and welcoming warden.

The course handled the rain from prior days reasonably well with some patches. I battled through 2 torrential downpours, I don't thing any course could survive that to be honest. Maybe the course should have been closed due to damage to the course.

Love this course and have played a number of times. Only ever experienced slow play once. Some nice wide fairways to forgive my high handicapper drives. Appears to drain well too as you often get a nice bit of additional distance from bounce. Still enough opportunities to lose balls to challenge those with higher handicaps. Although the bar wasn't open the last time we played, pre-COVID, I found it very welcoming. Has become a little more expensive than pre-COVID but hope to be able to pick up some visitor bargains in the future.

Course as always in great condition considering time of year. Played long with the wind, but always fair.

Course played very well in winter conditions, although not for a short hitter! Greens played well despite plenty of traffic. Rough cut short kept it fair. Always had great facilities the Garden course was in good condition too.

Good course, dry and fast takes some on the length away and it's quite wide off the tee. Shame there isn't any hole information on the tees or scorecard as a visitor it would be nice to know where you're going.

Overall, I find this to be an excellent course. The fairways and greens are in very good condition. Very long course which makes you take out the driver on most holes, however, if you don't hit straight, the rough and tree's on both side's of fairways will cost you. A downside, played now about 4 times in last few weeks, is slow play. Got behind a match on the back nine and it took near 3 hours just to complete these nine. A course Marshall is needed to patrol the course.

What a fantastic course ! Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Very well looked after course. Well run with a starter on the 1 st. Mature trees and water everywhere ! The only thing that lets it down are the bunkers. Loads of stones in them and the sand is rock hard. Four of us played on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm for £16.50 each. Bargain !! We will be back very soon.

Golfshake Team Review2nd time round this track, have to say its very impressive.
Fairways were in perfect condition, not too dry considering the amount of sun we have had recently. The greens were the same, even though it was dry you could still hold your ball.
A nice mixture of holes, long finish but worth it when you get there with the stunning water feature around the 18th Green, I would highly recommend visiting if your in the area.

Played this yesterday and really enjoyed it. A long course, even off the yellows, but reasonably generous fairways and forgiving rough give you a good chance of making a decent score. The majority of holes are doglegs, but you have to be a long hitter for this to affect the way you drive. Water comes into play on a number of holes but only around three greens. Fairways were in superb condition and the greens were a good speed. This is a hotel course, and a bit off the beaten track, so it doesn't get a huge amount of use. Well worth a visit and excellent value for money.

The Essex is an open and quite flat course which drains very well in wet weather possibly lacks variety in places but is quite forgiving. Club house and pro shop are perfectly good. There is a hotel on site and so there can be societies staying and playing - worth checking when you book.
