Better than more famous Golf Courses
Played on Sunday morning 14-04. Booked an early tee online and had a small delay due to course thawing out which meant we sampled the hot drinks available in the friendly clubhouse. We?d only played 2 holes when we realised we were playing somewhere special.A fabulous course which just got better.
Difficult to single out one hole as so many were fantastic- Every par 3, 3rd,5th,6th,9th,10th,11th and not forgetting the fabulous18th.
Members must pinch themselves every week at how blessed they are to play this fantastic course. Greens superb and afterwards really reasonably priced food in the bar- can't wait to get back..

The longest short course you'll ever play!
Cavendish is only 5700 yards long, but you will come off thinking that it's at least 1000 yards longer than that! Every hole is memorable, and at least four of them are among the best holes in the country!Easily the best course in the county, and one of the very best inland courses in the north of England. Well worth the trip to Buxton - itself a lovely town to visit!

Stunning course
First time playing the course. And what a Stunning course it is. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in fabulous condition. The wet weather had flooded a few bunkers, but I didn't go in any, so the GUR didn't come into play for me. Absolutely immaculate views throughout the very picturesque golf course. I was told the course is quite hilly, but I found it to be relatively easy to get around with no major hills to navigate. As for navigation, the course is well marked and easy to plot your way around. All together I would recommend Cavendish golf club to anyone, whatever their level. One last point, I'd like to say a huge congratulations to the ground staff, who must work hard to maintain the course to such a high standard.(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 83 Handicap: 13.8)

Hidden game - unbelievable value for money
Wow. What a course. I had heard great things about this place and, having checked the green fees (?20-?25 during weekdays), booked up for a round for Tuesday 17th July.Having reviewed the scorecard in advance, I was concerned that the course yardage of less than 5600 may be an issue - not a bit of it. There is only 1 Par 5 and 5 Par 3s resulting in the reduced yardage but this is a very good challenge of golf.
The first 3 holes are reasonably tame and shortish Par 4s but a nice way to get a feel for the course. You then move on to the 4th Hole which is the most stunning Par 3 you could imagine.
Ahead of my visit, I was also slightly concerned about whether the course would be too dry and baked (as a number of courses are at the moment) due to the long run of dry, hot weather - again, this was not an issue. The greens were beautiful, comfortably allowed a pitchmark and putted beautifully.
On to the scenery. The drive in takes you through the Peak District with fantastic views in and out of beautiful towns (obviously slightly different depending on which direction you come from).
The course itself is simply beautiful from the actual golf course to the rolling hills around the course.
Highly recommended, cannot wait to go back.

Open run purely as money generator
We played in the Bridget Newall Mixed Open at Cavendish on 08 July 2018. The Open was not particularly well supported by entrants but particularly by Cavendish. Cards were collected from the Pro Shop and Instructions were written on a blackboard. There was no starter and at the end a box was on the bar for cards. In spite of indicating on the blackboard that scores would be on the website they are not 24 hours later. There are no toilets on the course and no provision was made for people to get extra drinks part way round in spite of temperatures in high 20s. The only food available was hot beef or pork sandwiches with gravy and roast potatoes. The lack of any obvious effort to make this an enjoyable outing for competitors leads us to the conclusion that it was just a cash generator for the club. We will not be entering again which is a shame because it is a really good course even in such dry conditions.Reviewer Rating
