Disappointing, the course in places was near to being unplayable. The majority of tees were under water, fairways wet and muddy and the greens were so boggy you sank into them which left them bumpy and no fun to putt on. The course has some very short holes, par 3's around 100 yards par 4's around 240 yards, no challenge for golfers of a good standard more of a junior/senior course. Were told rather rudely by the vice captain not to play from the white tees so you cant even make the most of the £24 winter green fee. Many golf courses do allow play from whites and the ones that don’t usually have a sign up or mention it on the score card. Will not be returning anytime in the near future, if you’re a reasonably good player this is one to avoid if you’re looking for a challenging high quality course during the winter seasons, try the chalk courses. Girl at the reception was very nice though.

Course lacks the attention to detail you expect from the on-line reviews; greens were poor and slow, grass cuttings were everywhere and to cap it all the welcome sign adjacent to the first tee stated that "golf shoes preferred but trainers acceptable at own risk" (and they even spelled 'preferred' incorrectly). For me that says it all. Give it a miss.

Hosted a friend whose (local) home course was hosting a Pro-Am on the day. Everything was going really well: booking, tee-time, pro-shop, practice facilities - and then we hit the course. The design itself is entertaining (notwithstanding the reputation for "a lot of water - and not only in the ponds"), but two major turn-offs. One: the greens were appalling, with almost every single putt subject to bobbles, bounces and unexpected deviations - in fact, an embarrassment. Two: It's a fair cop to drop a shot (or two) if one strays off the fairway, but to immediately lose a ball in badly cut and un-picked-up grass and debris almost every time is a bit much. My companion did not enjoy his round. With these two things fixed it would be a pleasure to host other friends.

Thank you for review. I'm sorry the greens aren't to your, or indeed our satisfaction. Course work was carried out 10 days ago and it sometimes takes longer than we'd like to fully recover.
Warm weather has meant extra rough cutting and if the grass is wet, it clumps up. Sadly you seemed to find these areas. Grass cuttings are not collected and usually disperse quickly.
Look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Kind Regards

Wet Wet Wet

Enjoyed the course layout but not recommended in wet weather. Greens were bobbly and the fairways were boggy so not a good experience. Will give it another go if we get a dry spell.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for your review, always good to get feedback. we have had an unprecedented amount of rain in May and that made for a few days where the course was borderline to be closed.
Glad you enjoyed the layout and hospitality we offer and hope you can come back when the greens are as we'd all like them.

Dreadful! Fairways were poor even though you could pick and place, and as for the greens, absolutely abysmal. Needless to say will not be in a hurry to revisit. Perhaps if they spent less on the wedding venue and more on the course it might bring it up to average rating.

Disappointing

Played yesterday evening (20 August) and was was surprised by how bad the greens and tees were. The weather was beautiful, and I know it rained a lot the day before, but of the 14 holes we managed to play, the majority had areas on either tees or greens which were bare of grass and had GUR areas marked on them. The tees generally are exceptionally uneven making it hard to find a good place to tee from. This is a shame as there had been a lot of work done on the course and it had really improved. It is also frustrating that this type of information is not openly given out when booking, with maybe discounts given due to the poor condition. It is like buying a nice product only to find you have a b-grade/ex-demo item rather than a new one.

The course itself is very nice, good variety of holes. However, the greens particularly are not in good condition, which made putting difficult. I would play there again if greens were better. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent.

Although the course has a good mixture of holes that makes you use all the clubs in your bag it was let down by the condition of the tee boxes and greens. A lot of the greens have large dead spots. At ?32 to play On Saturday I think this is over prised for the condition.

Nice course layout but let down by the poorest greens I've every encountered . Don't know what has happened to them but they have only have around a 20 to 30% covering of grass.

Greens are poor, spoiled the round

Greens very poor, pace of play slow, apart from that the course is not a bad challenge and enjoyable. Not the greatest value for money as paid £32 each for the round on a Sunday but happy to support Golf clubs after the closures for Covid.

This is a challenging course with quite a lot of water, but the greens and tees are poor. Put me off when wedding party we’re playing with their children on the 18th green. Bar staff weren’t overly friendly either! Shame because it’s quite a good course..
