Fair but challenging
Blacknest is a really good course. We play as a group of high handicappers and the fairways off the tee give you every chance. There is water in play on several holes but in the majority of instances, you can play around any obstacles. Staff very customer friendly and environment welcoming.Reviewer Rating

Some of the comments are a bit harsh. Yes it can get a bit soggy underfoot, but its "winter golf,"and many courses are like this. I still think its a really nice course and we enjoyed our round.

Heavy going
There is much to recommend at Blacknest. The staff are friendly, green fees are modest and clubhouse facilities are good. However (at this time of year, at least) the course is very heavy going. The greens are quite patchy and the fairways muddy. A bit of a struggle all round in the winter to be frank. Some of the holes are oddly positioned too, with crossovers and switchbacks in certain areas. It doesn’t always flow from hole to hole. Keep the course map handy. Perhaps one to save for the summer months.Reviewer Rating

Enjoyable Round
First time playing this course. I was impressed with the facilities at the Club and the course design is interesting and challenging. The Pay & Play green fees are very reasonable. Unfortunately the weather was poor (course was damp) which meant the greens were a bit bumpy but still reasonable.I’d definitely play again

Mr
Played on Sat 4 th Sept ( a two ball)??Paid £64 for 2 a round- buggy reduced to £15 as the greens were covered in this kind of sand manure , it was really bad in parts of the course ,as globules of thick mud & sand on the greens made it terrible( nearly impossible) for standard putting- it was really bad- when booking we were NOT made aware of this situation, we were only advised when the pro when we arrived at the pro shop-( a bit late to change). We should of received( I think) half price green fees re these appaling state of greens- why do they doing this green feeding just before a Saturdsy( and dry weather forecasted?
Plus we noticed( and missed out) the 12 hole - we missed the tea( where is it)???????

Now better than ever - will definitely play again
It had been 25 years since I last played Blacknest, so naturally I was expecting the place to have changed. And changed it had. The 18 hole course has matured nicely over the years, the fairways were very good and the greens were as slick as they ever were. The overall layout of the course and its surroundings makes for a throughly enjoyable round of golf (regardless of golfing ability). All of the staff that I interacted with were very pleasant, and I'd like to think that I will be returning to play here again very soon. As given the price, Blacknest is very good value for money.
The only part of the experience that prevents me from giving a full on 5 star review was the driving range. I wasnt expecting Top Tracer or anything like that, just some semi decent balls would have been nice.
But overall, if you can, go and play Blacknest.

very friendly, poor greens
I really love Blacknest, it is a friendly club with great facilities, so I am reluctant to be negative, but the last two times I have played the course, I have been really disappointed with the greens. The ball jumps about so much and moves off line, it is so hard to make any significant putts. It is such a shame as the course is in otherwise great condition. If the greens were sorted, it would be a great course.Reviewer Rating

Good course, great value
Played a nine hole twilight round, and Blacknest offers great for money - particularly at a time when other clubs seem to have raised prices locally. No idea what it’s like I’m winter but in the dry the course is in good condition, greens are looking good for the most part and the fairways are bouncy. Pays to avoid the rough as it’s unforgiving in places and the water hazards are a challenge. Really good experience overall and I’ll be back.Reviewer Rating

Would NOT recommend
Played on the 13th sep. greens were in terrible condition, almost felt unmaintained and the course layout was really odd and felt a bit micky mousey. Not good value for money and really annoyed we weren’t made aware of the state of the course and offered a discount. I personally would not play again or recommendReviewer Rating

Disappointing
Played yesterday evening (20 August) and was was surprised by how bad the greens and tees were. The weather was beautiful, and I know it rained a lot the day before, but of the 14 holes we managed to play, the majority had areas on either tees or greens which were bare of grass and had GUR areas marked on them. The tees generally are exceptionally uneven making it hard to find a good place to tee from. This is a shame as there had been a lot of work done on the course and it had really improved. It is also frustrating that this type of information is not openly given out when booking, with maybe discounts given due to the poor condition. It is like buying a nice product only to find you have a b-grade/ex-demo item rather than a new one.Reviewer Rating
