Pay for what you get
Played here Bank Holiday Monday. We took advantage of the twilight offer and so played 18 holes for £15 each. Course was fairly quiet and we got round nice and quickly with no waiting. The main points we moaned about the entire way round were the state of the tee boxes and the greens. There was no mention when paying that the greens had been hollow tined. They were impossible to putt on. A three footer was impossible, with the ball jumping all over the place. The tee boxes were in a bit of a state. Most were not flat, with few decent patches of grass to tee a ball up on.
The course itself is OK, fairly standard up and down layout, feels like you are playing on a large field for the middle section.
But for £15 it is OK, and if the greens were better we would have been happy.

Not as good as previous visits
Have a society here once a year and try and play it a couple of additional times during the season. Latest visit on June tees were to put it mildly unkempt. The first tee was a disgrace for a hole that should give you a good impression.Overall the course was not as good as it has been in previous years. The meal for our society was inedible, we got a full refund!
Personally I would suggest Worldham nearby. Maybe not as picturesque but the course is in far better condition, and the food is far and away superior. They are people who care at Worldham.
I doubt we will be returning.

Not a course full of backdrop and views but nice course to go round if you like an easy walk. Bit pricey in comparison with other local courses

Some of the comments are a bit harsh. Yes it can get a bit soggy underfoot, but its "winter golf,"and many courses are like this. I still think its a really nice course and we enjoyed our round.

Heavy going
There is much to recommend at Blacknest. The staff are friendly, green fees are modest and clubhouse facilities are good. However (at this time of year, at least) the course is very heavy going. The greens are quite patchy and the fairways muddy. A bit of a struggle all round in the winter to be frank. Some of the holes are oddly positioned too, with crossovers and switchbacks in certain areas. It doesn’t always flow from hole to hole. Keep the course map handy. Perhaps one to save for the summer months.Reviewer Rating

Lovely day, damp course
I had a lovely day out but this course really needs to sort out drainage. It is so muddy and the course is so damp it’s off putting. It’s a tricky course but enjoyable if this could be rectified. Shame really as the facilities are great.Reviewer Rating

very friendly, poor greens
I really love Blacknest, it is a friendly club with great facilities, so I am reluctant to be negative, but the last two times I have played the course, I have been really disappointed with the greens. The ball jumps about so much and moves off line, it is so hard to make any significant putts. It is such a shame as the course is in otherwise great condition. If the greens were sorted, it would be a great course.Reviewer Rating
