Weather was superb, as was the course. This is one serious test of golf with hazards a plenty to catch any wayward shots. I was coasting at level par thru 6 holes and then arrived at the 7th hole......the hardest hole I've ever played! After a triple bogey I managed to pull the round back together.
Really enjoyed the course noteably the perfect tee boxes, number of distance markers and sublime greens. The staff in the shop were very helpful and informative.
Best part of the day? Sinking a 14 foot birdie on the 18th infront of the hotel terrace which was packed with members, then sinking an ice cold beer in the Claret Jug bar!!
Seriously recommend this to any mid to low handicap golfers after a true test of golf. I doubt high handicappers would enjoy it so much!

The rough has recently been cut back as previously it was manic, easy to lose a ball and plenty of water in play.
Thoroughly recommended.

It is a very challenging course I started playing golf again 2 months ago so I was more than happy with my 92 I shot on the 2nd day.
The fairways are very tight and fast, if you hit a good drive you will get an extra 20 or 30 yards just off the run of the grass, the greens are like glass, very fast!
Starting off with a big par 5 ( 524yards ) don’t be scared to get the driver out and give it a good belt, you have nothing to lose, as the rough to the left and right of the fair ways are manageable with a 5 iron leaving you a decent pitch as your 3rd shot if you need it.
Throughout the course there are a number of water hazards and bunkers, so good tee shots are helpful. The 2 lads that I play with tended played safe with a 3 iron or a 5 wood, but I could not resist trying to split the fairways.
The only other advice that I can give you is hire a buggy as wychwood seems to be a very long walk and we opted for a buggy on the 2nd round due to a few bottles of red wine we drank the night before!
The guys in the pro shop are brill, really friendly and helpful and will answer any questions you have regarding the course and gave us a few good tips regarding positions we should be aiming for on the big par 5’s. As well check out the photo’s on the back wall behind the till, we were surprised to see a photo of a very young Neil Cox ( ex Middlesbrough defender ) which gave us a good laugh after a 2.5 hour drive from sunny Middlesbrough!
All in all this was a grate 2 day break; we booked through a specialist online golf company and paid £98 for dinner bed and breakfast with 2 rounds of golf!
Would highly recommend this course to anyone and we will definitely be going back!
Stunning course, stunning hotel, stunning scenery!
