Played mid Feb 2017 and the course was in mint condition. Absolute gem of a course where you can really test all areas of your game. Played of yellow tees of the day and still a tough challenge.a thinking course for sure with all the bunkers placed around 200-240 from tees and surrounding greens on all holes pretty much (bunker condition was superb). Course layout was excellent with some fairly long walks between tees which once you understand the layout of the course you accept and this is a cha, pion ship course for sure. Playing of 10 and finished with a score of 84 so a good first look at the course. Will definitely be returning for another round. Very helpful young chap in the shop who was more than happy to give us a course overview before we set off. Great practice facilities also from driving range to putting/chipping areas. Negatives - green pitch marks was not great (fixed at least 5 per hole) and the range balls out the machine were very muddy. Overall a great day out with a great test of golf. Top course!!!

Its Tough

This course is no walk over, I play off 17 and was more than pleased and a little lucky to come off the course 19 over. Anything off target is punished severely by the very long grasses, and on some of the holes actually reaching the fairways can be a challenge. The greens are some of the best I have played on and very true, which saved my bacon on a couple of holes. The buggies have a GPS system display but ensure that you do not go off track as the buggy stops and locks for a couple of minutes, then tells you to stay on the track when there is no sign of one. Its probably best to get instruction from one of the staff before starting off.

Good Course but long!

Fair course - a good challenge and well maintained. Long walks between some tees but this is due to preserved wildlife habitat areas.

Good course

An excellent course, in great condition with superb greens.
A good challenging track without getting silly. Nicely undulating with some challenging greens. There are a few walks from tee to green, but it wouldn't put me off.
Theres water throughout, but you don't really see it until the back 9 where it comes into play a lot more.
I particularly liked the 17th, a great par 3, down over water to a narrow kidney shaped green.
My only criticism is the rough is a bit long, it's not needed to be quite so deep just off the fairway.

Excellent course, very challenging.

The quality of the course condition is always very good. Best greens in the area. This course is a real test of your golf, and always shows you how good or bad you really are. Any wayward shots will be punished without fail, you must be straight off the tee.
At £15 each using teeofftimes it is a real bargain.

Hacker's paradise

Good test of golf being undersold and insulted by the management, these days the course is full of hackers with no etiquette whatsoever, these guys will half an hour to play one hole, no Marshall on the course to check what's going on, some of the guys should not be allowed on the course, the pro should examine their game before letting them loose on the course, I am extremely disappointed that it has come down to this level. Very little refreshment eg sandwiches etc available in the pro shop. Range mate are harder than concrete, poor quality range balls. These guys need to up their game a bit to match the quality of the course.

played 2 and a half times sooooo slow

I played with 20 people on a 3 day break
nice tough course in good condition
HOWEVER
1 no course guide - which you need when there so many hidden hazards
2 BIG GRIPE - pace of play ---this has to be the slowest course
day 1 was ok ish - a bit later than we had planned (and had to put dinner back)
but day two
1 1 hour to get the the 3rd tee as we had 3 groups of four bunched up on the second tee
2 we waited on every hole and on every approach shot and were so slow we had to lie or sit down for 10 mins a time -we limped in in just under 7 hours - not enjoyable for anyone
3 dinner had to be pushed back again
on our final day we decided as a group that if we were more than 2 and a half hours for 9 holes we would call it quits
we were 3 hours 10 and the prospect and disappointingly came in
playing this slowly is not enjoyable

Disappointment

The course has potential but doesn't quite live up to expectations. Greens were in good condition but at variable level of dryness, which made judging putting speed almost impossible. On top of this you get concrete-hard fairways craving for water together with unforgiving rough and incredibly slow pace of play. The course was absolutely crowded: we had to wait at every tee for at least 5-10 minutes. I finished my round in just under 6 hours, which is the longest round I ever played... It is not the kind of challenge one would want to face again any time soon.

Played in late March some years since I last played. Thankful for a buggy, many long walks between greens & tees. Course in good condition although wet in places. This is a difficult course for high handicap players but rewarding after a good hole. Prices in bar very dear for food & drink although the golf was reasonable in price.

Played here in a comp on 12th April. The course itself has a great layout and there are a lot of different holes (none of them are really the same). The thing that I didn't like about the course is that in certain places such as one of the par 5s there are 'environmental areas' which on this hole was right down the middle of the fairway and also to the right of the fairway. If your ball goes in these you are not even allowed to look for your ball and you are to take a one shot penalty. Am I the only one who thinks up this is ridiculous? I mean surely you should just get a free drop out if your ball goes in it. They are in several places around the course. Also the greens were awful! Yes they had just been treated so were sandy and bobbly however in my honest opinion I don't think that they would be great even if they hadn't been treated. If the greens manage to recover then they will be tough as they are very undulating and big.
The facilities are good at Wychwood. The pro shop and clubhouse are very nice as is the de vere hotel!
In summary the course layout was good. Greens were poor. Environmental areas in the middle of the fairway is odd!

Very nice course with lots of interesting holes. Please be warned though that our round on Sunday 7th September took 6 hours! The course is fair but just to hard to cope with 8 minute tee slots for four balls and with the usual weekend society hackers. Plenty of groups were walking off the course behind us and we had 15-20 minute waits on every hole to tee off. Saturday round took 5.5 hours. Complained to the course and they just said it was the normal for a tough course which was a dissapointing response really. Would not play there again which is a shame.

A very long course, extremely challenging for a new player but really excellent fairways and greens make it a pleasure to play.
There are plenty of hazards and the tee for the 7th was nervy but not as bad as the 17th where a poor tee shot will guarantee you a splash.
The club house is fantastic and if you're not fit, I would definitely suggest hiring a buggy.
I played this course on successive days whilst working in Crewe and can't wait to return.

On arriving the clubhouse is fantastic as you would expect from a De Vere resort. It has good facilities all around off the course, a nice bar, decent enough changing facilities and a practice area for all types of the game.

The course is a monster! It is very well maintained but really difficult (not just because of my score). The fairways are not particularly narrow, but if you miss them there is a two meter wide cut of first rough, then you are into thigh deep elephant grass with virtually no chance of finding your ball. The holes are well set out on very undulating terrain providing alot of challenges, but that also means that playing as a visitor without any yardage chart (they had none in the pro shop) is very difficult, there are blind dog legs and dips/hills to greens tat you can't see, or can't see hazards.

I would recommend it, but take plenty of spare balls and find a way of having a plan of the course beforehand!

My favourite of the De Vere venues probably because I always play well around there. Not only that it's set up just to my liking. Very much like an American style course, wide fairways, large undulating greens and all the little things in place which tips the balance from a very good course to an exellent one. I.e Yargades at 200, 150 and 100, yardage book correct all little things like that. Great test of golf.
