The greens were being treated and had all sand and pitch fork holes all over. There was a temporary green on the 4th that was just a hole in the fairway not even mowed to like like a temp green. For mid august the course was in a bad state. Since a few years ago this is much easier as all the long grass and rough has been taken back, and now less enjoyable.

Played in a 2 day Society event. Disappointingly, there was no food available to purchase when we arrived mid-morning. On Day 1 the course was open, but was so wet and muddy it should have been closed. We were given no prior warning about the conditions.
The evening meal turned out to be a 3 course buffet which provided limited choice and was not to the standard one would expect from a golf hotel complex. We were a group of 15 and given only 2 tables of 7. The bedroom was good. Overnight the course had dried out a little, but was still muddy. Overall very disappointing.

Needs some tlc

I have been looking forward to playing this course as have wanted to play it for years. I have to say I and my group have left very disappointed. Tee boxes were a mess on almost every hole, greens were ok and better than some courses I have played. Fairways almost non existent. Course looks like they have given up with it. Much like the food in the hotel

The course is fairly good condition but the fairways and second cut need cutting and maintained too a shorter length.

Mr Newton

Played there October 28 course quite muddy in good condition for the time of the year nice comfortable round not many people about on the down side no chance of ever going back again left golf clubs in my vehicle overnight due to not wanting to drag wet muddy clubs up to my room only to come down next morning to find security locks broken and all clubs stolen hotel needs to step up security if they want to compete with others

Could be fantastic but...

I have just done a golf trip to De Vere Wokefield (8-10 Oct). Like many other comments I can confirm two things: 1.) the greens are shocking, actually is a disgrace for such a facility. 2.) the course plays very slow, 5 1/2 hrs, 5 hrs, and 5 1/4 hrs for the 3 rounds we played. There are just too many tee times and then they put one/two balls between 4 balls! It made the overall experience disappointing. To give a balanced review, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast and dinners were ok and the bar had a good selection of drinks. It seemed there was a shortage of staff given the volume of people at the venue. This can be a great golf break, just sort the greens and speed of play.

The course has suffered from a lack of staff due to covid 19 the fairways are very patchy and the tees and greens have suffered, most of the greens are good but some have crow damage, but overall the course is worth a visit

Way too wet.......

Plenty of rain had fallen before we got there and plenty fell while we were there. Many courses would have been shut but, this being a resort course they'll let you out whatever the conditions to avoid any question of a refund.
The fairways were either waterlogged or very muddy. Anywhere a trolley or many feet had been was basically a bog. Front of the greens was a complete lottery because of one or other of theses conditions. Bunkers were mostly half full of water and totally unplayable. Surprisingly, the greens were in decent condition.
However, I'm not sure I'd have been that impressed even if the weather hadn't intervened.
The tee boxes were unkempt and uneven. Same could be said of most of the fairways. From the tee it was difficult to see any difference between the fairway and first cut. On some holes that was also the case when you got to your ball.
Overall the place feels disjointed. The mansion is magnificent, but golfers are moved out of site with the bar and pro shop around the back of the 'leisure' block. (That's where we ate in the evening too.) If you fancy a bacon roll it comes out of a warmer in the tiny pro shop. Nothing like it on the menu in the bar. (Amazing that they don't appear do any kind of breakfast / snack for golfers there.)
Evening food was very good as was the room. The hotel staff were very friendly and obliging.
Would I go back? I don't think I would rush.

Very Poor

For a course connected to a hotel and conference centre the course was in very poor condition. Signage from green to tee was non-existent, for first time players it's a nightmare to find your way around. Tees were very poor although the greens were in good condition and true!
