Wasted potential
Played at Wokefield park earlier this week. I can only describe it as perhaps the most disappointing course I’ve played in a long time. Not the worst by any means, but the most disappointing. Why? Because this place could genuinely be one of the best courses and golf facilities in Berkshire.
It has an extensive pitching area, a large putting green, a driving range to practice in, but it is all unkept and undermaintained. The bunkers in the pitching area are full of stones and weeds. The driving range mats are worn and tattered, and the range balls are (pardon the pun) hit and miss (some don’t even have dimples!).
The course itself? Could be incredible, but again the issue seems to be maintenance and a bit of TLC.
The course is interesting. Plenty of lengthy holes, some amazing fairway bunkers and course architecture. Great undulation on the fairways, great water features, plenty of risk-reward holes and large greens with great run-off areas to punish errant approach shots.
However, the tee boxes are an uneven mess, both in terms of being flat and having grass cut at the same length. The fairways are overgrown and unkept, and the greens are a sandy, bobbly mess. Nothing roles straight and true. It’s basically hit and hope on the greens.
You could argue for £22 that I’ve got what I paid for, but I’m leaving this review to implore management to improve this place. It could genuinely be incredible with proper maintenance, and be a place that could charge £45-50 for visitors.
Pace of play was also poor, which I imagine is a reason for lowish prices and poor maintenance (ie. Cramming as many paying visitors in large groups back to back to maximise profits as far as possible).

Not well set up
Greens weren’t great and the rough was allowed to grow into what one would expect to be a fairway driving area. Not set up for expected clientele and hold ups on the course too long leading to 2 x 6 hour rounds.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 106 Handicap: 21.3)

Poor condition
This course is showing a lack of investment and care . The fairways are bone dry and the greens not much better. Many bunkers are full of weeds. Some greens especially on the back 9 are full of holes. Paths between holes have pot holes.Reviewer Rating

Mr
Over used course with battered tees and tired greens. The food and drink were over-priced as usual, but the worst aspect was the very poor quality food and service. Cold food, cold plates, dried up chicken or a burger. Prawn starter still frozen. Alternatively, you could enjoy the pleasure of cold vegetable soup. All in all - atrocious. If you hate food and don’t much care about the golf either, you might like the place. I will never return,Reviewer Rating

Worst course I've ever played by a mile. Fairways are like the light rough on other courses and on most holes it is bearly visible. The first rough is so long that you can bearly play out of it. Lost 4 balls all in the 'light rough' because it's so deep and impossible to find anything in them. The tees are unkept and the bunkers bearly have any sand in them. The pathways are utterly terrible. They have put so much gravel on them you can hardly move your trolley through it. Basically like what I imagine an F1 gravel trap to look like!!
The greens are shocking. Covered in debris and pitted to the point it's bearly playable.
The only good thing I have to say about this course is that if you like wildlife, there's lovely swans and geese in the lakes.
Such a shame as the course could be brilliant. Good layout and design with plenty of lakes for the visual appeal. The greens could be fun to play if they weren't so unkept.
We quit after the 10th after paying £30 for the round as it was just pointless. I've honestly played council courses that are better.
Just don't bother playing. Go elsewhere. Anywhere. I'd sooner play chip and putt than visit this place again.

Not payed for a while on this course and nothing much has changed to improve it and there is still the problem of slow play and too many players on the course.
We walked off after 14 holes due to very slow play.
Would I play it again? No unless they sort out the condition of the course and the amount of slow play play

Course should be closed until it dries out, it's actually a pretty decent course but at the moment it's like a big mud bog. If they keep letting people play while its like this, it will be totally destroyed.
