It's a shame as the location and layout could be very enjoyable.

First impressions are entry into the car park which has potholes everywhere and puddles like lakes. Okay not golf related but something that needs tidying.
The club house is okay. Slightly above average with a bar/restaurant, small pro shop and just outside you have a putting green. No other practice facilities apart from a couple of nets.
The course itself is very much a case of 'should do better'. When we played, the tee boxes were average quality with grass too long and a lot of lumps and bumps. The fairways are okay - mostly decent standard but again the grass could do with being cut a bit shorter.
Greens we found to be very good indeed - challenging and in great condition so well done to the green keeper for those.
Bunkers however were dire. The Weald Park website says they've been re-sanded but 99% of the bunkers had hardly any sand - mainly mud & compacted sand, and they seemed full of stones. I was unlucky to have to play from a couple and it was like trying to drive your wedge through hard clay.
Smaller issues - things like signposting, course markings and better yardage markers. A good tidy up on these would make things seem a little less 'tatty'.
Overall, the foundations are in place to make this course very good indeed. It may be that the previous owners let it get way out of hand and maybe things are picking up, but there's still a long way to go before this can be considered a very good course to play. A saving grace was green fee which was £18 but a buggy is definitely recommended, which adds another £20 onto the overall price for two golfers.

Very good greens
As all courses around London are currently, Brentwood was absolutely sodden this week. However, given that, the greens were in great condition and the club is always welcoming.Reviewer Rating
