What the club says: The 18 hole, par 71 championship golf course measures 6,361 yards. The layout is typical of that from the world renowned golf course architect Harry Colt, known for course designs such as Wentworth, Sunningdale and Royal Portrush.
Laid out in 1936 the course offers a great challenge with gently undulating fairways lined with trees. The greens always present a true putting surface and are framed by trees or landscaped mounds with many of them being protected by the cleverly placed bunkers to catch the wayward approach shot. The course consists of two loops of nine holes enabling golfers to start and finish their rounds near the clubhouse.

Maylands
Hospitality was excellent and fairways were good. The greens were poor and the club were doing a lot of work on the bunkers which were poor. I've visited Maylands numerous times and it's the worst I've ever seen the greens.Reviewer Rating

Not worth it
This course has such huge potential to be a great course in Essex however it feels like the course staff don't care. Greens were awful, completely patchy, bobbly and cut up, meaning you had no idea where the ball was going to go. So it didn't matter if you made the green, your putting was never going to get you anywhere. Bunkers like concrete and so much work that's been going on for years, you have to wonder if they're actually doing any of the construction work or if it's just been forgotten about. Shop staff member was friendly and had good customer service but other than that, I won't be rushing back to play again.Reviewer Rating

Service Terrible
Booked on line to play, got verification through all OK. Got to course no electric trolleys allowed so asked to rent a pull trolley to be given a handle and told they were outside to find only 2 trolleys, one that did not let the handle tighten and one wrapped in masking tape, returned to shop to be told do i want some sellatape!!!Golf course was very muddy and greens have a disease in them so very patchy but generally OK and not marked down for the course just the service.
Then got to the 19th hole to have a wait for at least 5-10 minute for refreshments as girl/lady behind the bar (same one as the proshop could not work the till).
Overall very disappointing

Sunday afternoon round
Very Dissapointing to have 7 players cut in on the 10th tee last Sunday 3rd of November - Also 4 buggies and only 4 golf bags. \Think they need to appoint a golf stewardReviewer Rating

Did not enjoy
1. Fairways rippled like an historic battle site.2. Frustrating lack of signage - few guides to next tee and sometimes no board to say which tee you have arrived at!
3. Loving wildlife as I do, it was still nonetheless annoying to have deer crap cover literally every square metre - not nice to walk about in.

So poor
This is the second time I have played this course in a month as I was playing in a golf day and wanted to see what the course was like. First time they changed ?35 on a Sunday not worth ?18 let alone ?35. The course was terrible greens shocking and fairways clay and thick mud. Played it yesterday and would not go back again. They layout was ok after the first 2 holes. Keep your money in your pocket on this oneReviewer Rating
