What the club says: The 18 hole, par 71 championship golf course measures 6,361 yards. The layout is typical of that from the world renowned golf course architect Harry Colt, known for course designs such as Wentworth, Sunningdale and Royal Portrush.
Laid out in 1936 the course offers a great challenge with gently undulating fairways lined with trees. The greens always present a true putting surface and are framed by trees or landscaped mounds with many of them being protected by the cleverly placed bunkers to catch the wayward approach shot. The course consists of two loops of nine holes enabling golfers to start and finish their rounds near the clubhouse.

Maylands is a little gem of a course in Essex, inside the M25Got a great deal through Golf Deals Group, ?29 for 2, including coffee and bacon sandwich. A fantastic deal. Heard that Maylands was a nice course and it didn't really disappoint, even though is was very wet and grass mats were in play on every hole, but no temporary greens, which was surprising, but welcome. There are some nice holes and some average ones, but that's very much the same everywhere, in my opinion. The closeness to the M25 didn't really bother us and it only comes into play on 3, maybe 4 holes and the sound from it isn't that loud. The wildlife was evident with herds of deer parading around as if they owned the place. With the very wet conditions they did make some holes look a bit worse for wear, with hoof marks everywhere, but this was only evident on about 3 holes and the deer added to the enjoyment of playing here. Favourite holes, would have to be the 8th, 9th, 12th and 14th. A good mix of holes, with varying degrees of difficulty. The pro-shop was a bit sparse of items, but the old barn clubhouse was comfortable and the food was good. Friendly staff made it an enjoyable day and I'd come back in the summer to see how the course plays then.
very good course - even better dry
Five Tear ReturnIt had been 5 years since I played this course. I wasn?t sure what to expect but the course maintained the same challenge as I had remembered. Still a great layout but the M25 road noise was ever present. It didn?t spoil the round as the course has some great holes, especially the par 3?s. Like many courses now however the investment just isn?t there in the back up facility?s. I couldn?t even buy a pencil in the pro shop! It seems the only thing that has improved is the deer population.
Return to familiar groundThe course seems to be a popular venue but this have it's effect on the condition of the course because of the enormous traffic on the course the greens were very bumpy and a lot of the surrounds was very bear and the bunkers could definitely do with some sand, this said the deer on the course was a pleasant sight although they can cause a bit of damage to the greens and bunkers

Great members courseMembership of a David Lloyd gives you access to the golf course
Hidden gem!I booked a pre-paid 3 ball, tee off time just before midday on a Sunday, 18GBP per player so was not expecting too much for that price. I had not played the course before even though its only around a 15 min drive from where i live.
The course is on the corner of the A12 and M25, but you would never know it (apart from a couple of holes that are near the motorway) there is a very nice club house that is an old barn mostly used for weddings and groups i suspect as its huge. There was a nice spike bar for a pre-round breakfast and post round pint with a nice decking area outside over looking the course.
The course itself was in very good condition, some of the best bunkers i have played and decent greens that were playing somewhat slow, but we had had some heavy rain in recent days. There are some nice holes with some challenging par 3's.
Typical park land course with plenty of tree's, but if you do go into the trees then you had a good chance of always finding your ball as the rough was kept manageable. The course is well laid out with good signs to the next tee box's as some of the tee's are a short walk from the previous green.
The stand out thing was the large amount of wild roaming deer on the course, you would have thought you were in the new forest not just off the M25!
The pace of play was excellent and we were not held up once even though there were a fair amount of players ahead of us, we completed the 18 in just over 3 hours 45 mins.
Overall both myself and my playing partners were very impressed and will definitely return, i suspect though that it will be a summer venue for us as the morning seems pretty full with members and societies, so getting an earlier tee time on a weekend for pay and play may be a struggle
Good valuePlayed in good weather. Started on the 10th, fairways and greens in good condition, bunkers still wet from previous day's rain but playable. Very friendly club and already booked for next week.
Nice courseNice course and we?ll laid out. Start is a bit dull, but gets more interesting as you get past the first couple. Well maintained, despite the deer ????.
Nice coursePoor weather didn’t stop an enjoyable round, nice parkland course with a good variation of holes

Great conditionGreat course. Weather helped being dry and would recommend to anyone interested hitting a few balls in romford

Well keptPlayed today, was amazed course in very good condition, even after all the rain lately, fairways were cut and greens were very good. Really thought it would be muddy, but fairways firm. Excellent course set out and some very good challenging holes. Would play here again. Oh and forgot to mention only ?10.00 each for four ball on a Sunday. Great value.
Disappointing dayThe course has suffered like many others from lack of rain and it’s condition was poor with large cracks in fairways and the greens in very poor condition with bad fungal growth on most. The M25 is ever present and very noisy when near to it. The clubhouse was welcoming and friendly but the changing accommodation is cramped to say the least and there had been a flood from the showers which did not help. The course layout can be a bit confusing with some lengthy walks to tees but there are some good holes in between. Many deer seen which do not seem to damage the course unduly. Altogether disappointing and not a course I would easily return to.
