£15 for twilight is a bargain. Decent condition too compared to others in the area which charge twice the amount

You get what you pay for.

Played this course in late August 2025. The fairways aren't irrigated so they were very dry and hard with vicious uneven bounces on occasion. The tee boxes were in poor condition, bare and often so hard it was virtually impossible to get a tee in. The greens were generally okay, but very slow as the grass had been left to grow too long. there were a couple of greens however in very poor condition. This course is very wooded and there were a lot of leaves on the course (also a lot of trees which have been allowed to overhang the fairways meaning shots are often blocked). Finding the ball amongst the leaves on the fairways was a challenge at times. A lot of this could be put down to the very dry Summer, but other courses seem to be managing this better.
This course is relatively cheap to play (?25 mid-week senior) but other courses in Essex, such as Chingford and Stapleford Abbots, are cheaper and considerably better maintained.
Being a public course within a larger sporting and recreation area it was a longish way from the car park to the pro shop and there are no bar facilities (even the toilets are in a separate area). There are some practice facilities however.

Excellent Condition

The course was in an excellent condition, the ground staff must work extremely hard to keep this public course to such a high standard. The 4th green had a small bare patch which was unfortunately on the line of my putt, but apart from that I found no issues

It's a pretty nice course but god forbid after the round you want to grab a beer and chat about your round with your golfing partners they treat you like 2nd class citizens if your not a member and won't let you into the bar area and send you on your way like a peasant to the seating area with screaming kids running around which is not an pleasant atmosphere I sneak out to play golf to avoid such situations I feel if your paying to use the course facilities why exclude golfers to be able to relax after the round

Good municipal mature tree line parkland course

A good municipal mature tree line parkland course which had an easy walk with undulating fairways. Fairways were in good condition, but if you run off the fairways into the 1st cut it is very easy to lose a ball. Sadly the greens had just been sanded. The 7th is a tough par 3 with a ditch in front of the green and over hanging tree branches.
My only criticism of this course is the bunkers which are in very poor condition (very little sand)
Practise chipping/ putting green. No driving nets.
A very good course for the price will definitely play again. Also has a great pro shop with a huge selection of equipment and clothing.

This is a.nicely laid out golf course with Interesting holes. It was wet and some of the greens practically unplayable.
There is no lounge area for visiting golfers to relax with a drink. Members only bar. Can have a coffee in the soft play viewing area.

Brilliant golf course tight but fair suitable for every golfer level.
£15 for Twilight is a must, but £28 midweek or £35 weekends is still under-priced for the challenge & the conditions in the proper golfing season.

I find getting to the pro shop and the course itself not very clearly marked. Pro shop stocks very little for women but staff are very helpful. The course itself is in great condition. Fairways are well kept as are the greens. No facilities on the course. And women?s loos appear to be part of the soft play area.

There arr no words..sometimes

Played as a group on a Saturday, charged full price . Yes we know there had been frozen conditions and Hartswood does not have great drainage so our expectations were low and we were not dissapointed...sadly.
17 temporary greens... now as far as I'm concerned this means greens off the main course but in reasonable condition to play some sort of putt. These so-called temporaries had not work done on them at all around the golf hole.... no excuses
I understand the need to protect the course and then at least make it playable. We regularly play here and enjoy it but this was disgusting... a rip-off off really.
