So wet it’s a waste of time / unplayable at those winter times / no-ones fault just the nature of the soil. Should maybe be closed in winter to cut costs and opened in May til October only or closed completely and reverted to a public wildlife park? Probably beautiful course in high summer with woodland tees though etc.

played the course for the first time on Sunday (22/11/15). Weather was 0c so ground was slightly frozen. arrived at the course to be told thye have temp green, which i accept due to the weather but could not reduce the green fee.
Taking the weather out of the picture i thought the course was in poor condition. You couldn't tell the difference from the fairway and the rough,Another down side you cant pay your green fee by card which is strange,
After finishing the course i bumped in to two golfer who finished just before us who have played the course many times and use to be a member. They said its the worse they have seen the course.

This is a parkland course with a lovely layout.
The only problem is that it is run by Brentwood Council! They just don't have a clue.
We played on a Saturday and the fairways hadn't been cut. There were times when we couldn't tell if we were on the fairway or not! The greens were very poor, very slow and bumpy.
If this was a private course it would be very good indeed.
Not particularly long but the 6th hole at 470 yards (par 4) is one to be played! It used to be a par 5 but they decided to make it a long, hard par 4. Shame they didn't alter the stroke index at the same time as this is by far the hardest hole on the course.
There is a cafe and a Discount Golf Store next to the clubhouse. You pay for the golf in the shop and they only take cash for the golf. You pay for the car park in June, July and August. Take you ticket into the shop and they knock it off the £20 weekend green fee.
This is worth a visit just for the nice layout, but be warned about the greens.

There arr no words..sometimes
Played as a group on a Saturday, charged full price . Yes we know there had been frozen conditions and Hartswood does not have great drainage so our expectations were low and we were not dissapointed...sadly.17 temporary greens... now as far as I'm concerned this means greens off the main course but in reasonable condition to play some sort of putt. These so-called temporaries had not work done on them at all around the golf hole.... no excuses
I understand the need to protect the course and then at least make it playable. We regularly play here and enjoy it but this was disgusting... a rip-off off really.

Played the July 22 course was good but dry
The problem we had was people pushing in on course slowing play down sometimes three groups waiting on tees .called clubhouse and got the answer not one can come out no Marshall it seem you can do what you like and join over the road on the third tee and not pay will not play there again

Nice layout but poor condition.
This course is a great layout but we encountered 5 temporary greens.2 were vandalised and 3 recovering we were told. The 3 recovering were all
In playable condition without a doubt. No reduction in green fee either.
Proshop said Brentwood council do do reductions.

The course is now starting it's winter don't care state and we won't be returning till next spring.The course isn't looked after during November,December,January,February and we will go elsewhere as yesterday showed already that value for money it is not....I love this course when it's in good condition but for the next few months it's best to avoid

needs a cut
The fairways were like the first cut and the rough was truly penal. To be fair, a lot of work has been done and more was underway. In another couple of weeks the course could be back to its best.(Round played: Apr 2018 - Score: 102 Handicap: 21.6)

Few points to note, bring cash as they do not accept cards for green fees, there are no yardage books so tricky if you haven't played here before as you can hit what you think are good shots only to find that you have no shot to the green. Also temporary greens on a couple of holes so you have no idea on distance. I wouldn't recommend playing here unless you are playing with someone who knows the course.
