Not impressed at all with maylands today. Played twice before and loved them both time but today was awful. Course itself was in decent condition except the greens which were very poor. Expect more for the money they charge. Which brings me onto the first problem. their 2four1 voucher policy. £30 is the normal fee but if you use a voucher its £20 rather than £15 as they decide that you will pay half the all day rate which is just stupid. Then despite them assuring us trolleys would be allowed on the day.. trolleys were banned so we had all turned up with cart bags and had to lug them around the course affecting the day. Shame really used to like maylands but today has put us all off.

Sunday afternoon round

Very Dissapointing to have 7 players cut in on the 10th tee last Sunday 3rd of November - Also 4 buggies and only 4 golf bags. \Think they need to appoint a golf steward

Enjoyed a round amidst someone's society day so slow but no hardship. Always plenty of deer around to while away the waiting. Greens had been aerated so slightly unpredicatable but fairways reasonable despite recent wet weather. A real bargain & happy to go back again this winter

Interesting layout

Interesting layout of course hidden dome dirt track behind a run down farm
Several holes cross over with others so constant slow play and waiting for adjacent hole to play shots
Variety of layout fairly good condition and good clubhouse
Watch out for local deer pretty to watch but leave fairways in very average condition which makes recommendations difficult here

First day back from Lockdown2 Maylands

First time at Maylands for me but my playing colleagues have played several times. First impressions circa new C19 rules was a nice clubhouse suitable for all sorts of functions. Nice snack and coffee before we start. Cost was ?25 which for midweek winter golf was a bit high. Right the course was in reasonable condition with the greens a little long but this is understandable. Course was ok played off yellows just under 6k in length but somehow did not feel that long. Course was not that difficult whether it is much harder in Summer because of the overlying trees is yet to be seen. Its a beautiful area with an abundance of wildlife which is lovely to see, I've not seen this amount of Deer anywhere so that was great to see even if you are dodging the droppings on the way round . Overall a great experience.

Good value

Played in good weather. Started on the 10th, fairways and greens in good condition, bunkers still wet from previous day's rain but playable. Very friendly club and already booked for next week.

There was both good and bad about playing my first ever round at Maylands in December. The downsides appears to be how wet the course can be, and the noise from the M25 that follows you through your round. That said, I found that I tuned out the noise fairly quickly.

The greens were slower than a lot of courses I've played recently, although they looked very good and the ball ran very true. The fairways are fair and generally wide, with only one or two that could be described as tight. The 7th in particular is especially narrow if you have a driver in your hand.

I wouldn't describe the course as hilly, but it is very undulating.

Overall I enjoyed playing Mayland's (despite my score here). The course is very pleasant and there are some nice holes, and I wouldn't hesitate in going back for a return round.

Hospitality was excellent and fairways were good. The greens were poor and the club were doing a lot of work on the bunkers which were poor. I've visited Maylands numerous times and it's the worst I've ever seen the greens.

Not worth it

This course has such huge potential to be a great course in Essex however it feels like the course staff don't care. Greens were awful, completely patchy, bobbly and cut up, meaning you had no idea where the ball was going to go. So it didn't matter if you made the green, your putting was never going to get you anywhere. Bunkers like concrete and so much work that's been going on for years, you have to wonder if they're actually doing any of the construction work or if it's just been forgotten about. Shop staff member was friendly and had good customer service but other than that, I won't be rushing back to play again.

Service Terrible

Booked on line to play, got verification through all OK. Got to course no electric trolleys allowed so asked to rent a pull trolley to be given a handle and told they were outside to find only 2 trolleys, one that did not let the handle tighten and one wrapped in masking tape, returned to shop to be told do i want some sellatape!!!
Golf course was very muddy and greens have a disease in them so very patchy but generally OK and not marked down for the course just the service.
Then got to the 19th hole to have a wait for at least 5-10 minute for refreshments as girl/lady behind the bar (same one as the proshop could not work the till).
Overall very disappointing

Did not enjoy

1. Fairways rippled like an historic battle site.
2. Frustrating lack of signage - few guides to next tee and sometimes no board to say which tee you have arrived at!
3. Loving wildlife as I do, it was still nonetheless annoying to have deer crap cover literally every square metre - not nice to walk about in.

This is the second time I have played this course in a month as I was playing in a golf day and wanted to see what the course was like. First time they changed ?35 on a Sunday not worth ?18 let alone ?35. The course was terrible greens shocking and fairways clay and thick mud. Played it yesterday and would not go back again. They layout was ok after the first 2 holes. Keep your money in your pocket on this one
