Do Not Care

I used to play Stoke Park back before the House got bought. It was a lovely golf course and maybe a little pricey at £250 a round, but you knew what you were getting..
I played the course again on bank holiday Monday, April 20 26. There’s nothing wrong with the course. It’s in good condition maybe a little bit below where it used to be. The issue is the attitude of people. A buggy of three people, two of which would never play golf and one of whom was five years old interrupted my round on the 10th. The Marshalls are driving past so I asked them if this was okay. They told me just to go off the 15th which I declined and I managed to make my way past the group. Having played three more holes the same group were in my way again as they had hopped across onto 14 and in my way again. When I raised this once more, no one seemed bothered again. For £150 it’s not ok. I got offered a future round at 75 pounds when in honesty I want to be acknowledged on the round I played. They just don’t really care. Go to the Grove if you want some customer service.

Expensive course and they are working hard on 9 holes at present putting in new and further bunkers. Perhaps too many on most holes. Bunkers are deep and can only normally chip out . so they do their job as defence for the course, but too my mind spoil the round. After you have been in the sixth bunker it becomes tedious.

Beautiful day complimented a lovely course. The pro shop was friendly and well stocked and appointed. The only sour note were the unnecessarily aggressive and surly half way house 'starter marshalls' who lack class.

A frozen course greeted us on arrival and put paid to our 8.30 start. Once given the go-ahead by the Pro, the course slowly warmed to our play. Personally, I played out of my skin and consider myself lucky that the ropey greens and rock hard fairways didn't take the gloss of the great company I played with and the service that followed in the clubhouse. Would come back, but would need to talk to my bank manager first or rely on the lottery- the greens need some improvement to truly justify the price but then again, to actually play just after Christmas is a miracle!

I was luckily enough to be invited but would be reluctant to pay full green fees as I believe there are many courses locally that a better VFM. In saying that it is a top course and quite exclusive.

Expensive round

In good condition as you would expect but I believe too expensive at ?70 with a member. The course has millions of deep sandy bunkers as its main defence and they work very well as you are unlikely to be able to advance the ball very far as very high lips on virtually every bunker

Beautiful (but pricey) Stoke Park

A wonderful course, beautiful setting but for what you pay, you would expect a little more fine-tuning.

The 1st hole has recently been downgraded to a par 4, somewhat disappointingly and therefore some of the bunkering is a little out of kilter. The pretty and tough par 3 3rd requires solid ball-striking, as does the 4th, a long dogleg par 4 which requires a fade off the tee to set up a medium iron to the green. The signature par 3 7th is famously the model on which the 16th at Augusta was created, and requires some delicate putting to avoid a three-whack. The back 9 starts with a gentle par 4, followed by another beauty of a par 3, framed by trees from the tee and featuring water and a false front. the dogleg-left 14th returns you towards the clubhouse, followed by the only non-descript par 3 on the course at 15, which would be better off for some decoration between tee and green. 16 and 17 are both strong par 4s which require accurate approaches, before the uphill 18th allows for a birdie chance to finish in glory in front of the adorning drinkers on the balconies.

The greens were quick and true on the most part, but given the hot and dry summer, it can be expected that they might be a little parched. I was a little disappointed by the level of manicuring of the fringe grasses across the course and some of the tee boxes weren't in great shape either. Having said that, these are minor gripes on what is truly a great, parkland course which I'd happily play several times over. the green fee is steep, but you do, for the most part, get what you pay for.

Played here for the first time via a winter warmer voucher. Did the Colt/Alison 18 which was nice, but not quite as spectacular as the green fee might lead you to believe. Course was also wetter and in worse condition than I would have expected for the cost of a round. Having said that, it's an interesting layout and does have some stand out holes, mainly the par 3's which are all interesting in different ways. Bunkers are also prevalent throughout both on typical driving distances from the various tees and around the greens so expect to spend some time in them. Service in and around the hotel and pro-shop was excellent as you'd expect from a 5* venue. I enjoyed the day and the course but having now played it, wouldn't rush back given the high price required to do so.

Brilliant golf setting this, from arrival through changing to the range then tee all adds up to a feeling pretty special. First hole don't forget to look back and take photos. Signature holes there could be more than one, particularly interesting the Pre-Augusta version with all the same challenges as that famous 12th. Back nine gives some good chances to score if you're on form, if not enjoy the picturesque walk in!

The new bunkering on the front 9 really adds to the course when you compare the second and third 9s, which i believe will be upgraded this winter. Greens are quite fast and smooth, not as manicured as i expected but still excellent. You are paying for more than the course here there is a certain feeling about the place that is quite special
