Overall a good solid course and benifits from great drainage meaning it is playable and in good condition all year round. The staff are all friendly and accomodating and a credit to the club

Poor course
Only played front 10, so maybe last 8 are much better & some of my criticism is unfair. The first 6 holes are just non descript & might as well as hit a ball up & down a long field. Probably didn't help that it was the middle of winter after a week of rain, but no difference between fairways, rough & tee areas!! Greens, just not worth putting on, forget chipping, as flags were all 3 ft from front & aprons were mostly mud. Bunkers covered in weeds & edges look like not cut for months.
7th was first proper 'golf hole' as gorse gave a bit of character. 8, 9 & 10 slightly better than first 6. It's a shame as they have so much space the course with some money spent on 'features' & more greenkeepers, could be made good.
At least the course was empty as it was minus 1 and windy.
I have played here before about 5 years ago, & remember thinking then, won't go out my way to play it again. Couldn't be more different from their adjoining neighbours.
Pro shop were friendly.

Excellent Value
Summary: Friendly staff, Long parkland course, a bit scruffy here and there, but overall worth the money. We were welcomed with Bacon sandwiches, and coffees with good prompt service. The pro shop were relaxed and friendly. Good start.
We teed up not expecting much, as some reviews have indicated poor greens and tee boxes etc. We were pleasantly surprised with the condition and beauty of the course, and were very happy with the price.
Don’t get me wrong, the greens and tee boxes could have done with a bit of TLC, but absolutely playable for the average handicap golfer, for this price.
The length of the course was very demanding, but open enough to spray some drives and not be penalised too harshly. I imagine if they grow the rough up and add wind it would be brutal.
The one thing I did notice was the worm holes on the tees and surrounding areas, and the animal damage. It indicates a lack of pesticide investment, which some would argue is a good thing, I sit on the fence on that one, it just looks a bit scruffy!
We had a great day, I am an 8 handicap, and it was good enough for me, I don’t see how anyone can really complain for the price.

Cracker
I really enjoyed this course, it was in fantastic condition. Most of the holes are tree lined, so you have to be accurate .
Equally accuracy to the greens is important, as they are quite small in places & a lot of them have drop offs to the back & sides.
The back 9 is better than the front 9, particularly 13 to 16
10/10 to Ian the greenkeeper, who looked after me as I had arrived before the pro shop was open. He couldn't have been more helpful.
I found it a really fair test of golf & would recommend it to beginners & more advanced golfers.

It is situated in a very peaceful picturesque part of Oxfordshire but still very easy to get to.
The golf course was in excellent condition, the fairways are very lush with very good drainage( my trousers were very clean afterwards) probably best the fairways I've played this year! The greens are also very very good, big and undulating so some thought had to be put in before putting.
Overall I found Rye Hill to be a very good test for all golfers and a very enjoyable round was had.
Great value as well £17.50 including a sleeve of balls and a pint afterwards.
I look forward to playing it again soon!
