Rye Hill GC was a new experience and a very pleasant one, set in lovely countryside and luckily we played in blue sky's and sunshine. Clubhouse building and car parking very good. In house services (pro-shop and bar/food) ok. The course itself is a fair test of golf and as a19HC I failed yo play to my handicap, so some tough holes, although the fairways were wide and the rough not too much of a penalty. Certainly would play the course again if I was in the. Banbury area.

Considering the conditions (very wet), overall the course was in very good condition with the greens being excellent for November.
Our 20 members thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the weather and were very complimentary regarding the Steak & Ale pie we devoured afterwards.
As for the standard of golf, least said the better - scores ranged from 32 - 11 points with most members finding the long par 4s and sloping fast greens real challenge.

We had a group of us play Texas Scramble and all had an enjoyable day , only with draw was should had a couple of Buggies for a few of the older golfers who looked worn out at the end of the day

Golfshake Team ReviewLovely course in the Oxfordshire countryside not far from Banbury. I organised a society golf day for 28 golfers and we all had a great time receiving a warm and friendly welcome from everyone at the venue who ensured we had a great day.

The course is well maintained, nice fairways which aren't that punishing in terms of wide or the rough and nice large greens. Off the yellows this is still a reasonable length course so offers a nice test of golf. The holes are varied enough to ensure you don't just plod your way around the course but have to do some thinking!

Well worth a visit and would definitely go back if I was in the area given the quality and value for money.

I would recommend the club to anyone interested as the points system works well for anyone that cannot play regularly.

Poor course

Only played front 10, so maybe last 8 are much better & some of my criticism is unfair.
The first 6 holes are just non descript & might as well as hit a ball up & down a long field. Probably didn't help that it was the middle of winter after a week of rain, but no difference between fairways, rough & tee areas!! Greens, just not worth putting on, forget chipping, as flags were all 3 ft from front & aprons were mostly mud. Bunkers covered in weeds & edges look like not cut for months.
7th was first proper 'golf hole' as gorse gave a bit of character. 8, 9 & 10 slightly better than first 6. It's a shame as they have so much space the course with some money spent on 'features' & more greenkeepers, could be made good.
At least the course was empty as it was minus 1 and windy.
I have played here before about 5 years ago, & remember thinking then, won't go out my way to play it again. Couldn't be more different from their adjoining neighbours.
Pro shop were friendly.

Interesting course for mid to high handicap player. Generally forgiving off the tee with wide and open fairways. It's long and this is the main challenge of the course. There aren't a lot of hazards other than bunkers around the green. Hence there is not much call for course management - so a very good golfer may not find this to be suffucnently challenging. Greens were excellent, views from the course fantastic and an attractive course. It's a long and hilly walk though, so an electric trolley is desirable.

A solid test for any golfer as reasonably long but enough room not to be too punishing. Shots in to greens are a good test as large greens with undulations and can be tough if you miss around the greens. With its location the wind can also play a factor and depending on direction make the course play completely different.

Overall a good solid course and benifits from great drainage meaning it is playable and in good condition all year round. The staff are all friendly and accomodating and a credit to the club

I can only assume previous reports of poor staffing is from a while ago as i have found everyone to be extremely friendly and helpfull. the course is challenging, in the wind it seems a awful lot longer, the greens are spot on and if you play a wayward shot the course will bite you in the rear.

Very friendly club in Oxfordshire

I tried this club for the first time and played millionaire golf for the morning. Nobody else on the course but I found this was down to Tuesday's not being a senior day so it's generally a bit quieter.
The staff were very friendly and provided me with a course layout map and although the bar was closed when I returned, there were plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available in the shop.
There is no driving range at this club and the greens were a little frayed around the edges but the hot weather and lack of rain had contributed to this.
If you head to this course and use Google maps, the postcode will take you to a private residence......DON'T ring the intercom on the gate, as I did and woke a lady up.
Drive past the turning and you will see the entrance to Rye Hill, clearly on the right.

With its layout, variety and views this course has the potential to be a wonderful destination. It is, however, in need of a great deal of TLC. The greens are a bit scruffy, with many unrepaired pitchmarks. The bunkers are well-placed to provide a challenge, but it would appear that the vast majority of them haven't been raked by anybody for some time. On some holes it is hard to define where the fairway ends and the rough begins, and the first cut is so long that it is easy to lose a ball only a couple of feet off the fairway. The bar/cafe only opens infrequently. Although some drinks are available in the pro shop, today they were only offering fruit-flavoured cider. On the plus side it was an inexpensive round and the pace of play was pretty good, but it wasn't busy.

Excellent Value

Summary: Friendly staff, Long parkland course, a bit scruffy here and there, but overall worth the money.
We were welcomed with Bacon sandwiches, and coffees with good prompt service. The pro shop were relaxed and friendly. Good start.
We teed up not expecting much, as some reviews have indicated poor greens and tee boxes etc. We were pleasantly surprised with the condition and beauty of the course, and were very happy with the price.
Don’t get me wrong, the greens and tee boxes could have done with a bit of TLC, but absolutely playable for the average handicap golfer, for this price.
The length of the course was very demanding, but open enough to spray some drives and not be penalised too harshly. I imagine if they grow the rough up and add wind it would be brutal.
The one thing I did notice was the worm holes on the tees and surrounding areas, and the animal damage. It indicates a lack of pesticide investment, which some would argue is a good thing, I sit on the fence on that one, it just looks a bit scruffy!
We had a great day, I am an 8 handicap, and it was good enough for me, I don’t see how anyone can really complain for the price.

I really enjoyed this course, it was in fantastic condition.
Most of the holes are tree lined, so you have to be accurate .
Equally accuracy to the greens is important, as they are quite small in places & a lot of them have drop offs to the back & sides.
The back 9 is better than the front 9, particularly 13 to 16
10/10 to Ian the greenkeeper, who looked after me as I had arrived before the pro shop was open. He couldn't have been more helpful.
I found it a really fair test of golf & would recommend it to beginners & more advanced golfers.

Great course, couldn't be in better condition certainly for this time of year. Every hole demands your full concentration on each shot. A lapse of focus will be punished as I found to my cost on seemingly straightforward approaches. Well placed bunkers and other hazards provided a good test of golf for low to mid handicappers.
