Good Value
My wife and I took the advantage of a short break at the Portal Hotel and played the Premier Course. For other visitors be advised that two courses that Portal have (Premier and Championship) are not in the same place and are about a two minute drive from each other. The course in places a bit up and down but tree lined with few fairway bunkers. One thing I did not like was the amount of grass cuttings left on the fairways. The hotel staff and golf staff are excellent and very friendly and even though we did not get to play the Championship course, due to an injury, we still had an enjoyable time.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 88 Handicap: 16.9)

Coming along
A challenging course, some long holes especially against the wind. Interesting back to back par fives at holes 3 and 4, a long par 3 at 5, 8 and 9 have interesting greens, as does 12. Signature hole is probably par 3 14th, over water, but you won’t forget the long, long par 4 17th. Good fun.(Round played: Jun 2020 - Score: 96 Handicap: 19.1)

Potential To Be Better
This is part of the Portal "resort". The clubhouse etc is all a bit tired not like the hotel down the round where the "Championship" course is. With some TLC this could be a great stand alone club and sister course. The course is no different. Just some attention to detail, tidying up of the tees and surroundings would make it a decent parkland course. A couple of lovely holes and great value for money. Pro shop is not the best.(Round played: Jun 2019 - Score: 83 Handicap: 12.9)

Good course
Well maintained course greens in ok condition considering their size. Pro wasn't very helpful tho. We asked if we could start on the 11th as a ladies comp was going out in front of us, us being a 2 ball and there was no one at that stage she declined by saying that there was groups after so we'd struggle. We skipped 4 to 9 and finished and the first was empty when we got back. Most clubs would accommodate for this and even the lady members said the same. Very poor management by member of staffReviewer Rating

Challenging course
Played here as part of a promotion and paid only £10 green fees, really challenging course with some long holes and well placed bunkers, well worth a visit(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 78 Handicap: )

The championship course has some faults though, greens are below average/poor for a course if its calibre. But the biggest issue for me is the rough, its laughably long. Hit a good drive just off the fairway, be prepared to lose it, all good on a course with spectators for professionals but terrible for the average golfer. Still has a great layout and good on the eye. If I was to return Id happily play the premier course several times but wouldnt go near the championship

Tough for an amateur!
Bit too tough for your average golfer... Just a few feet off the fairway could lead to a lost ball, or at least a couple to duffs to get it out! Glorious set up though.(Round played: May 2018 - Score: 103 Handicap: 17.3)
