15 golf courses you must play in Scotland this autumn

Share

Scotland may be the Home of Golf, but there is much more to an autumn round here than ticking off a famous championship links. Beyond the celebrated coastal stretches lie wooded estates, heathland fairways and inland courses that take on a different character as the season changes.

The traditional links remain a major attraction. Their sandy foundations can be an advantage when wetter weather arrives, although wind, frost and individual club policies can still affect play. Meanwhile, a crisp day among the trees in Royal Deeside or the Borders can be just as memorable as a round beside the Firth of Forth.

For this 2026 selection, we have revisited Golfshake's dedicated Scottish autumn recommendations, including ratings submitted during September, October and November, and considered the experiences shared by golfers in subsequent course reviews. The result is a mix of established favourites and venues that might be new to your must-play list.

If your autumn golf plans take you further afield, take a look at our 20 recommended golf courses in England too. We've also covered 10 golf courses to play in Wales this autumn. First, here are 15 Scottish courses worth exploring.
