What the club says: The Roxburghe is an exceptional parkland layout situated on the banks of the River Teviot and surrounded by natural woodland. The estate is owned by the Duke of Roxburghe and he was determined to make this course a few notches above the rest. So, he commissioned Dave Thomas of Belfry fame to make the most of a landscape ideally suited for the purpose. The result of Thomas' design is inspiring with numerous mammoth sized bunkers, wide and rolling fairways and strategically placed water features. At 7,111 yards, it's a challenging course although with the fairways generally on the wide side, it is also most suitable for the amateur golfer. In 2002 Roxburghe entered Golf World's top 100 in the British Isles; it is also the only championship course in the Scottish Borders. An immediate hit with pro golfers such as Colin Montgomerie, the course record is held by Sergio Garcia with a 6 under par 66.

After wanting to play this course for years I managed to bag a place in the Gent's open in July this year. I am delighted to say that the course lived up to my high expectations! The layout is one of the best I have played, and the course was in immaculate condition. The greens, in particular, were exceptional (the pro told me they were playing at over 12 on the stimp meter!).
I have only one gripe - I found my fair share of the bunkers that day, and their condition did not match that of the rest of the course. Three of them had very little sand in them, so my club just bounced and I thinned the ball through the green. All of the bunkers had lots and lots of very large stones in them. They need to sort that out!
Having said that, I would not hesitate to return. - Dec 11 2014
Golf Course Reviews for The Roxburghe Golf Club
setup for their club championship, but 1 day after Storm Hector, the course could not have looked better - but really tough to play ( or at least tough the way I was playing !). Will want to make an annual pilgrimage here

Quite a drive through country roads to get to the Roxburghe, but well worth it.
Clubhouse and pro shop are quite small but adequate and very well presented.
The aspect of the course is great. It is a beautiful parkland course, very idyllic and with lots of space on most holes not to feel hemmed in by all of the large trees.
The course was in great shape. It is long and challenging for the high handicapper but thoroughly enjoyable all the same. Bunkers are many and often massive. You really need to think about how you approach each green as they are often surrounded by large bunkers.
Par 3s are also a challenge with only one relatively short and all are lovely holes but tricky shots.
There are great views around the course but the first view of the viaduct as you walk down hill through the trees is an extra wow factor.
We finished off with a meal in the clubhouse where the food was also first class.

Been coming to The Roxburghe for many years now. Outstanding golf course which is always presented in immaculate condition. Would highly recommend. 10/10.

Played a society event in brilliant sunny weather with a wide range of handicaps in the group. Course was in stunning condition, greens a proper test for all abilities and a real struggle for some. The welcome and hospitality was top drawer and would recommend the Roxburghe and The Borders to all.
