What the club says: The Medal Course; Length: 6655 yards, Par: 71 SSS: 72.
This course has recently undergone a 3 year recovery programme under the head greenkeeper Scott Rennie and is in excellent condition with well grassed narrow running fairways, lush semi-rough, penal heavy rough and fast consistent greens not to mention the deep revetted bunkers to test any standard of golfer.
Ashludie Course; Length: 5123 yards, Par: 68, SSS: 66
A compact and challenging test of golf, the Ashludie course designed by James Braid requires more brain than brawn, demanding accurate iron shots to the well respected greens. At just over 5000 yards in length this course offers any golfer immense enjoyment played on its own or as a second round in a days outing.

Tom Watson's favourite links
Itg can be a bit intimidating to be driving alongside the Intercity from Aberdeen to London charging at you tooting his whistle just in case you decide to drive and risk killing the train driver. But in spite of tha it's a magnificent links course.Reviewer Rating

Friendly golf course
My wife and I were in Dundee recently and decided to visit Monifeith and what a great decision that was. We were met with a friendly welcome in the shop with some advice about the course and then, after hitting some warm up shots, we were met by the starter who gave us some advice about where to aim on the first few holes and also told us about a large group ahead of us and gave us extra time to warm up so that we didn't hit the backlog too soon. The first six holes go away from the clubhouse and were downwind so played nice and easy to start with. Typical links course with strategically placed fairway bunkers that you need to avoid if you want to hit the greens in regulation. There was a par three which played shorter than it's yardage as it was downhill. Once we turned back into the wind, we found out how tough the course could be with holes playing at least three clubs longer. There was some water on the seventh but nothing too difficult. The eighth was a very short hole at under two hundred and fifty yards and downwind so another chance to make a score before the beast that was the ninth. A par five that was into wind and you need to aim at the marker post for your first two shots with some long rough catching very wayward shots. The back nine was much tougher than the front with the rough punishing you when offline and, as most holes are back into the wind, you were having to hit longer clubs all the time. The two par three holes both felt long and had bunkers surrounding the greens to catch your shots. There was a another marker post on the fifteenth hole which helps to guide your shot before playing into a green that is uphill. Sixteen is a fairly straightforward hole with seventeen being a long par four which felt like it was playing five hundred yards. A lovely par five to finish which, even though it was long, gave me an opportunity to make a birdie. The course was in great condition, the greens ran true and the bunkers had plenty of sand which was soft and easy to play from. There is a chipping / putting green and a couple of nets to hit into prior to playing the course. The starter came up to us several times throughout the round as he was keeping an eye out on pace of play and was very friendly. It's this kind of attention to visitors that enhances any visit. Once we completed our round, we went into one of the clubhouses and had a meal. That was one of the biggest portions you could have and tasted great. This course is definitely worth playing and, we will definitely return to play it.

Poor greens and unfairly punishing
Played this course on 5th May 2024 as part of the Mizuno Pairs events. Greens were poor compared to all of the other courses we played in the week. Whilst this was acknowledged by the starter to some extent the general quality of the grass on the greens was very patchy compared to Scotscraig, Elie and Leven which we also played in the week. Also tee shots which strayed slightly off the fairway often ended up in very difficult lies, so it felt like a reasonable shot was very unfairly punished. I probably wouldn't return.Reviewer Rating

Monifieth Medal course is a fabulous Links test of golf. Lots of undulating fairways, plenty of the typical links type bunkers, and true, fast running greens. This fantastic course is well worth a visit.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 82 Handicap: )

Lovely layout, not to testing
Superb links course within a mecca for golf. The course isn't too testing and fairly flat and open when we played but makes for an enjoyable experience for all with a great variety of holes. Greens were great and ran true despite playing during the super hot spell. I'd also imagine you could please this course at a different time and the gorse, heather and rough would be a completely different beast make the course a different challenge. The hospitality was grear, pace of play perfect, course presented well and fun to play. Highly recommend this course if you are in the area and fancy something different to some of the more well known courses.

Excellent Track. Worth a Visit
This Golf Course is amazing. The Pre qualifier for the British open just a week earlier. Typical Links course where its all run and keep the ball low. Some great holes where a few of them are a drive and then a 3 wood. Long but rewarding. 18th par 5 is superb, only because I had an eagle 3. lol. This is real value for money if you love the link style courses.(Round played: Jul 2018 - Score: 81 Handicap: 13.8)

Always in top condition
I have played both the Medal and the Ashludie course and found them to be in very good condition, all greens are true on both courses, Ashludie is the shorter course but requires placement off the tee for a good 2nd shot to the green, The Medal is the longer of the courses and has the hazards placed well for the longer hitters and greens are guarded well, both are an enjoyment to play whatever the weather. There are 4 clubs/clubhouses inc one ladies feeding into the 2 courses, there is a well positioned sign outside which of the clubhouses are for visitor use on the day rotating between them, Also a well stocked pro shop for all your needs inc trolley hire inc electric trolleys, also buggy hire, All the staff and members i came in contact with were friendly and welcoming, overall i would recommend a visit to Monifieth golf course and if you have the time play both courses if you can. There is also 2 x putting greens which you can practice your chipping onto, a short 2 min drive is a larger practice area with bunkers and to work on your longer game.Reviewer Rating
