Lovely layout, not to testing
Superb links course within a mecca for golf. The course isn't too testing and fairly flat and open when we played but makes for an enjoyable experience for all with a great variety of holes. Greens were great and ran true despite playing during the super hot spell. I'd also imagine you could please this course at a different time and the gorse, heather and rough would be a completely different beast make the course a different challenge. The hospitality was grear, pace of play perfect, course presented well and fun to play. Highly recommend this course if you are in the area and fancy something different to some of the more well known courses.

Friendly golf course
My wife and I were in Dundee recently and decided to visit Monifeith and what a great decision that was. We were met with a friendly welcome in the shop with some advice about the course and then, after hitting some warm up shots, we were met by the starter who gave us some advice about where to aim on the first few holes and also told us about a large group ahead of us and gave us extra time to warm up so that we didn't hit the backlog too soon. The first six holes go away from the clubhouse and were downwind so played nice and easy to start with. Typical links course with strategically placed fairway bunkers that you need to avoid if you want to hit the greens in regulation. There was a par three which played shorter than it's yardage as it was downhill. Once we turned back into the wind, we found out how tough the course could be with holes playing at least three clubs longer. There was some water on the seventh but nothing too difficult. The eighth was a very short hole at under two hundred and fifty yards and downwind so another chance to make a score before the beast that was the ninth. A par five that was into wind and you need to aim at the marker post for your first two shots with some long rough catching very wayward shots. The back nine was much tougher than the front with the rough punishing you when offline and, as most holes are back into the wind, you were having to hit longer clubs all the time. The two par three holes both felt long and had bunkers surrounding the greens to catch your shots. There was a another marker post on the fifteenth hole which helps to guide your shot before playing into a green that is uphill. Sixteen is a fairly straightforward hole with seventeen being a long par four which felt like it was playing five hundred yards. A lovely par five to finish which, even though it was long, gave me an opportunity to make a birdie. The course was in great condition, the greens ran true and the bunkers had plenty of sand which was soft and easy to play from. There is a chipping / putting green and a couple of nets to hit into prior to playing the course. The starter came up to us several times throughout the round as he was keeping an eye out on pace of play and was very friendly. It's this kind of attention to visitors that enhances any visit. Once we completed our round, we went into one of the clubhouses and had a meal. That was one of the biggest portions you could have and tasted great. This course is definitely worth playing and, we will definitely return to play it.

Poor greens and unfairly punishing
Played this course on 5th May 2024 as part of the Mizuno Pairs events. Greens were poor compared to all of the other courses we played in the week. Whilst this was acknowledged by the starter to some extent the general quality of the grass on the greens was very patchy compared to Scotscraig, Elie and Leven which we also played in the week. Also tee shots which strayed slightly off the fairway often ended up in very difficult lies, so it felt like a reasonable shot was very unfairly punished. I probably wouldn't return.Reviewer Rating

Classic Links
Monifieth Medal course is a fabulous Links test of golf. Lots of undulating fairways, plenty of the typical links type bunkers, and true, fast running greens. This fantastic course is well worth a visit.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 82 Handicap: )
