What The Club Says
Ballumbie Castle golf course's terrain sweeps and turns with no two holes the same. Most clubs in the bag will be used but not necessarily a driver off every tee, especially for the first six holes of the course where position is more important than distance.
The most difficult stretch of the course starts at the 10th, a par four with a burn running next to the fairway and a sloping bank to the right, as well as a pond to the left of the green. It is followed by a long 210-yard par three with water a big danger, then another par three at only 156 yards that can catch people out with its sloping green. This section of the course, though short, catches out many unsuspecting golfers. The 13th is a testing 535-yard, par five uphill and usually into the wind.

Well maintained course
This course on the outskirts of Dundee is a good visit. Staff were very helpful with information as I'd never played there before. It is parkland and quite hilly in places so hire a buggy if possible. A round cost ?32 and buggies are ?20 (I think). I chose to walk.
There is only one pr 5 on the course which is a shame and the par 3's are all similar distances with ground contours the only challenge. There are also a couple of holes where tees cross over so keep vigilant but well signposted.
The houses along side a number of the holes is a bit daunting - for me at least. Avoid hooking left!
The 3rd hole has an 'internal' out of bounds with signage to instruct playing a driveable hole in two shots to avoid hitting onto the 2nd fairway. Other than that, the fairways were in good firm condition and greens were excellent (and quick in places).
There is a small pro shop and a 21 bay Toptracer driving range on site (100balls cost about ?11).
Scored 76 on this par 68 and intend going back to better it this week. The other course in the area is Downfield and that costs about ?80-90) so Ballumbie is well worth a visit if your in the area.

Nice open course, but a really awkward layout
Nice open course, but a really awkward layout. There are lots of holes crossing over each other, internal out of bounds areas to force you in a certain direction and points where you need to send a scout/lookout 75 yards ahead to see if you can tee off (there's signs that state this). It feels like there should be a way to make the layout a lot less awkward and allow the course/play to flow (cause its got lots of space) and if that was done then it could be a 9 out of 10
