Great course with a truly great atmosphere. Played in November and the greens were fast a true, not a bobble in any of them. Layout was great and every hole was a challenge. Condition can't be faulted not a blade of grass out of place. To the person who complained about the routing, don't be cheap and buy a course planner!!!

Recently visited The Astbury with a group of 20+ players. As a party, we had booked the standard arrangement of bacon butties and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf and a 2 course meal to round off the day. We had been told a great deal about The Astbury and it's rather unique history and - without pre-judging a musical genre - a background of Heavy Metal didn't seem to be an ideal preparation for designing and building your own golf course! However, the topography, inspired use of such and a healthy dose of perfectionism have come together to produce a layout which would be the envy of the majority of more established venues. K K Downing's application has produced a course that provides a balanced challenge to golfers of all abilities. Our party had a handicap range from 1 to 20 plus and everyone - without exception - enjoyed the variety of challenges but, we were able to play 18 holes in a reasonable time. There are sufficient elevation changes to add interest without being physically taxing. Fairways are tightly mown, with predictably sound lies, whilst the rough - for this time of year - was not particularly punishing, but I suspect in the summer, has the potential for a lost ball or two! As young as it is, and the clay based soil will require investment, the course has plenty of mature features including some well established trees and water. Numerous new trees have been planted which look to be sited well to play their part in future visitors' rounds. The bunkers are particularly well positioned with excellent sand (which I'm told is imported but can't be sure). Above all, the greens are outstanding. They have clearly been laid out to USGA specification, hold only the best struck shot, run fast and have sufficient grain to make even a flat putt interesting! The Clubhouse is an adaptation of an old manor house which is tastefully adorned with Judas Priest memorabilia. The food, whilst sensibly simple, was plentiful and wholesome. Overall, a great place to visit whether as part of a small or large party. You'll find the hospitality excellent and the course rewarding.

Played the course as part of a charity day and despite the awful weather we've been having it was cracking day out. Best playing surfaces I've ever seen and really did live up to hype. You can tell that there is a lot of attention to detail here and it shows. Someone told me KK imports his bunker sand from the Caribbean! Probably the best thing was that it didn't feel like a golf club and we were made to feel very welcome. Course is generous off the tee but don't be fooled into thinking its easy because its a real test. Can't wait to go back when the weather is better.

First time here with our Society 18/5/14. If I could rate higher than excellent I would! So welcoming, amazing food, and what can I say about the course.... all 28 players in our Society said its the best they've ever played, and some of them have played at some top PGA and links courses. Awesome place and would highly recommend.

I played at The Astbury for the first time last weekend in a society away day. The whole set up is fantastic with the drive up to the hall setting you up for a fantastic day. The course was in fantastic condition with the fairways defined and stripped and not a weed in site. The greens were immaculate, quick and true and a great test of your putting. Afterwards we had food in the bar and the staff throughout the whole day were professional, helpful, polite and knowledgeable. I will definatley be back this summer and would recommend The Astbury 100% to any golfer. A true gem.

Fantastic Golf Course worthy of all the rave reviews! It\'s beautifully laid out and in unbelievable condition for the time of year. The two professionals in the shop very welcoming and helpful even lending one of our group their shoes and walking us to the first tee. A credit to the club. The clubhouse is stunning and all staff helpful. A very quiet relaxing day. Whole heartedly recommend it.

Played in the first week of August, after heavy rain and thunderstorms, despite the rain the course was extremely dry, not a puddle in sight. I saw the course on Tv on the europro, and after my first visit it certainly lived up to the billing. The course and clubhouse are a must visit.

We visited in late July just after torrential rains had eased and they had staged a Pro tournament. Because disease had affected the greens on the back 9 it was a course of 2 halves. The greens on the front 9 rolled immaculately and were very quick with subtle borrows that were hard to read. Remedial work on the back 9 was well underway and the greens were considerably slower but easier to play for the average club golfer.
This is a must visit golf course in the making - very well kept, tees and fairways are well presented, bunkers were consistent and almost a pleasure to be in. Staff have been well trained, were anxious to help, and made us feel very welcome. The fact that they took weekend bookings was a massive advantage and enabled us to put a hugely popular package together for our group of 24 club golfers.
We would definitely return and recommend the venue. The course rating reflects the poor climatic conditions and the recovering greens on the back 9.

Played recently with a party of about 20 from Kingsdown in Wiltshire, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost courtesy from the pro and all of the staff. Although quite new, the course was excellent. Will most certainly return. Tremendous value for money.

Have played Astbury a number of times and the have found it to be in suberb condition on every occasion. The greens are slick and very true and will be a test for the best putters, tess and fairways are manicured with a great coverage of grass , the long stuff is tough if you get in there but there is a fair amount of room off the tee. Presentation of the course overal is great with a quality feel that you would expect to find at the top championship courses.
The clubhouse looks the part with the staff being friendly and attentive.
Look forward to returning soon.
