The course was just in poor condition. The greens were unplayable (repair work under way - very sandy) and there was a lot of wildlife damage. Same goes for the tee boxes. I'll pay it again in the Summer.

Great Potential, but let down by course design
Clearly confined by the original park layout and converting it into a golf course, the design of many of the longer holes is perplexing and in some cases just poorly thought out. Together with the winding paths between tees its makes for an incredibly challenging course to walk (seemingly everyone has a buggy because of this). The grounds of the manor house are impressive and provide scenic views, just a shame the course itself couldn't live up to them.Reviewer Rating

Work Required
Having not played here for over 8 years I was very disappointed with the condition of some of the course. Tee boxes were awful, clearly not been watered for long time, very little grass on some and covered in sand on othersGreens again have clearly not been watered for a long time, brown and dying in patches and it only late may. I would hate to see then in a few weeks without any water.
Paths are untidy and the general appearance looks in kept in places
Fairways were excellent. It is such a shame, this course could be fantastic it is fairly clear warners who have taken over are not that interested in the golf. £40 a round is too much for the state of the course.

Lovely course - but not suitable for everyone
Heythrop is a great layout with many excellent and picturesque holes. But...A group of of us (mixed ages mid-50s to 70s) played the course recently and there are several things they need to address for visiting parties.
The state of many of their pathways is appalling and indeed, in my opinion, extremely dangerous. On several holes these are little better than rock and pothole-strewn tracks and very tricky to walk along, particularly as they are often on steep inclines and climbs. Certainly not suitable for those less nimble on their feet than they once were.
The other two gripes are that walks from green to next tee are ludicrously long - particularly on the back nine - and on-course signage is less than clear, so playing the course unseen can mean it's difficult to know where to go next.
Some of our party had ordered buggies but these were banned - deemed to be dangerous to use in the conditions and quite rightly too - which meant that one of our party was unable to play either day and simply ended up going home.
I think tour operators, as indeed the course itself, should flag up the distances between holes and the tricky terrain to be navigated in some cases so those who may struggle will be forewarned and understand what they are booking. To give an idea - our home course off the yellow tees is approximately 13,000 steps. Heythrop off the yellows was 18,200.
There are no facilities in the golf shop for cooked food so bacon buttie enthusiasts may be disappointed if they travel any distance and fancy something to eat before they go out. The hotel, reasonably close, by does do breakfast wraps or full breakfasts but they are not cheap and in our party those who indulged found them very expensive and served cold.
In summary we thought the course was great, very picturesque and a tough challenge, but with those visiting in a group of mixed ages and abilities might be quite a struggle. I have ticked the "would not" recommend button only on the basis of the paths etc. not the golf course itself.

Massive potential
This course has the potential of being amazing, however there are some issues, lack of maintenance being one of them, although this been slowly improving, I would love to see this course back to its former glory.Reviewer Rating

Interesting & Different
An interesting course in the grounds of an old historic house tuned into a hotel and conference center. The course is spread out through the estate grounds and a good long walk and quite a lot of walking from green to tee so good shoes and an electric cart advisable. This did however make the course interesting and lovely views of the Cotswolds and the estate grounds. We paid ?17.50 per head on a deal for a four ball with bacon rolls & coffee so were very happy at the value for money at that price. Weekends before 12pm are ?45 a round!! - the course and paths are not that well manicured to justify that cost, look out for the deals would be my advice. Would I return - yes a good challenge, good excercise, great countryside a different course not simply up and down fairways.Reviewer Rating

Heck of a walk
Nice course, starts of fairly straight, but some lovely holes later in the round making you think about shots. There is a lot of walking between holes on the back 9, we agreed on buggies if we played again. Course was good, but we felt it needed a little bit of attention on it, some of the greens were a bit patchy.(Round played: Sep 2017 - Score: 101 Handicap: 24.3)
