Lovely course, reasonable hotel

I don't often leave reviews but hopefully I can say something helpful about Heythrop.

Firstly, the setting is fantastic. If you like golf to be quiet and away from main roads, then it definitely ticks that box. However, as others have noted, it is very expansive, and a long walk. We played a round behind some older golfers, and it took 5:20 (yes, five hours and twenty minutes).

The review before this one mentioned the condition of the course - I don't know what it would have been like in April but I know that lots of courses have been struggling, perhaps as a knock-on effect of lockdowns. All I can say is that of the 5-6 courses I have played this year, Heythrop was in by far the best condition.

As for the holes themselves, we thought they were almost all fantastic. Nearly all of them give you some kind of visual challenge or interest from the tee box. Others have mentioned the 18th, which is an arrow-straight par 5 up to the mansion, and visually unlike any other hole I have seen, but there are many others, not all of them straightforward.

The hotel feels a little odd. We all commented on this and later found out that it used to be a Jesuit education college (!), which perhaps explains the feeling of the place, as well as the small size of the rooms. The food was reasonably good, although I would avoid the steak, which was of poor quality and poorly cooked (although this is clearly very easily remedied!). I should add that the package we booked gave us a very generous food allowance of £32.50 per person per day. The odd feeling was exacerbated by the difficulties they are clearly having with staffing at present. The "pro shop" closed at 5:30 every day. On our arrival day, we wanted a drink and some food at 10:30, to be told that none of the bars or restaurants were open, having closed at 10, and would only re-open at 11. Hopefully this is also something that they will be able to remedy in the future, too.

Good course - great scenery.

An interesting course with a deceptively easy start both physically and golf-wise . As the course progresses it becomes significantly more undulating with longer walks green -tee and the course toughens to ease off again at the end with a very long but flat and straight 18th hole with a superb view of the mansion. Torrential rain beforehand meant some muddy trails off piste.

Heythrop Park

Lovely golf course, some tricky holes but also a chance to score points. Nice and quiet for a Saturday morning and played at a good pace.

A hidden Gem

Had a great time playing is amazing scenery, a beautiful course that's as nice as any I've played on. The only thing that let it down was the quality of the greens and bunkers.

Heythrop Golf Resort is a fantastically beautiful course which is nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside. A long winding course with a buggy definitely needed for a quick round.
