Fantastic strategic course
Although the course is short and relies on the challenge of topography (hilly heathland) as a golfing test, it made us really think beyond selecting a club based on yardage. We look forward to playing the course a second time and trying to avoid dropping shots on what at first glance appeared innocuous holes.Reviewer Rating

The hills make for interesting holes throughout the whole 18 holes. Enjoyed the round, but easy to lose shots if you miss a green.

Wet but not windy. Course in good condition and quiet. Greens ran very true. A stiff walk but lots of interest and would go back again.

Hilly and variable course
Interesting course that is fairly forgiving. Playing wide onto the longer stuff is easy to play out of but there are some tricky bunkers that can make an approach challenging. Greens were in great condition, the course was get really dry and a bit rough around the edges. An enjoyable round.Reviewer Rating

cracking course
natural, out and back linksland course with great views over lower lying land to north east and west. short on the card but can play very long indeed depending on the wind.superb fairways and decent but slowish greens.Reviewer Rating

What a great course. Fantastic holes and a great thrill to play it for the first time. The pro was very welcoming and slotted us in as we hadn't booked. Thanks fir a great experience.

Great Old Course
Royston is a very challenging course set on the North Chiltern Hills. A fantastic layout and a good challenge for experienced players. The rough can be very thick, and is a difficult course for high handicappers.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 110 Handicap: 21.4)

Tough Course
Deep Rough & bunkers make this a difficult course to navigate around. Also, most holes are affected by prevailing wind. Greens in good nick.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 103 Handicap: 22.2)

Hidden Gem
Played here April 19.My 2nd visit to Royston & just as good as the 1st time.
Very interesting ,good fun, hilly high up open natural course that seems to go under the radar with links characteristics & good views. Is much better than it looks from the road below. Loads of excellent & unusual holes & i didn't think there was a weak hole on it which is testament to the clever design .
Great collection of 5 par 3's which are all different in their own way .
Will be well conditioned when you play ,You have to think a lot more than normal on approach shots & they will need to be precisely struck & accurate .
It's easy to get to from the A1 (m) & from the clubhouse you drive to the 1st tee & it's a bargain at £12.50 each on Tuesday afternoons.
If you haven't played this before & don't mind several steep climbs allied with loads of excellent holes that aren't run of the mill then this is a must play.

Hilly and short but tough in the wind
A stiff breeze made it tough to score well and the greens were irregular speeds considering some had been airiated and some just sanded. 4 3-putts for me which was 200% more than all the rest of the rounds in 2019. Shows you the state and uneveness of the greens(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 89 Handicap: 15.8)
