First round was challenging, we actually got lost on the course. Teed off on 5th, putted out on the 7th. A lot of blind holes so a course guide is a good buy.Reviewer Rating

Much Improved
The course has improved drastically and considering the recent inclement weather it was very good to play on, only the odd damp patch on a couple of greens. Some bunkers could do with more sand and less balastReviewer Rating

Good course
Played this course a few times now and i have to say I really enjoy it. Recently had some work done to it, Greens are clean. Some bunkers can be a bit grainy. Really good course in winter periods as it does not hold water so there is no flooding or puddles.Reviewer Rating

24 Jan 2024Played as a 2 ball today, course was in excellent condition, the greens have improved noticeably, good conditions to all areas. Played in testing windy weather, would recommend others to visit. Should be better in the summer this year when the newly installed watering to all tees and greens takes effect.

Very good wet weather course
My friend like to continue playing over the winter period. When it is wet, there are very few courses that cope with weather and none are better then Heydon Grange. Because it sits on chalk, the drainage is very good and it is rarely affected by rain - only in exceptional circumstances. We have played over the last three weeks and, as usual, the course coped well with the wet conditions. The fairways were in good condition and the greens were good and true. The bunkers, however, were less impressive and were in serious need of TLC. We will continue to play here whenever the weather is less than ideal.Reviewer Rating

Good for practice
Played on April 2023. The weather was cloudy most of the day, the course was wet from overnight rain.First, the course is certainly on the easier side of those that I've played. The fairways are quite wide which may help those who have a tendency to push/pull their tee shots. The greens aren't too undulated and aren't too difficult to read.
However, the overall condition of the course leaves a lot to be desired. Greens and fairways were fairly inconsistent between holes. A lot of the surfaces, particularly greens, and surrounding fringes/fairway leave a lot to be desired which made putting/chipping trickier.
There's a reasonable pitching practice area, a small putting green (which again needs some TLC), and a driving range. Unfortunately, the driving range wasn't open when I arrived quite early. Bunkers would benefit from new sand/regular raking to prevent weed growth, and most of the water hazards require topping up.
The pro shop is small but has some good products. The clubhouse has a lovely traditional interior.
IMO, the condition of the course should be indicative of the price and I wouldn't really want to pay more than £15-20 to play here again, in which case I'd suggest playing the twilight rate.

Decent but .......
Course was in decent condition compared to the last time I played it. Rough wasn't too long.My only beef was the 2 ladies 3 ball infront of a 2 ball on a buggy not letting us play thru because we were pay as play.... VERY POOR ETIQUETTE

Nice dry course
Haven't played this course for some time, but it was ok. The first few greens were frozen but it was easy to find balls in the rough.Reviewer Rating

Very good wet weather course
My friend and I have played at Heydon Grange for a numbers of years and it is our 'go to' course when the weather is wet, particularly in winter. Because it is situated on chalk the ground drains very well and, when we played in January 2023, we found it to open when many other courses were closed. Despite the recent very wet weather, the course was reasonably dry and we were able to have a good round. This is the course's biggest selling point. The clubhouse is fairly large but lacking in atmosphere and the food is nothing to write home about. We thought the welcome isn't a good as with other clubs that we play at.
We will continue to play at Heydon Grange whenever ground conditions at other courses are bad but it is not our first choice to play at.

Utterly Dreadful
If you read all the reviews below it will give you an idea on the ownership of this course. They do not care about the coursse whatsoever and have never put any money into it at all. the lack of bunkers, uncut grass, un-maintained greens is nothing new, it has been the case for atleast two years. There is 0 investment in this course at all. In January 2022 a load of sand was dumped into the middle of the bunkers on the front 9, and they asked the members to spread it out as they go round, What a joke. The back 9 they didnt bother even putting sand in and have left them as not in play since then.Avoid this course at all costs, hopefully they will sell up and someone who actually cares about the sport will buy it and breathe some life into the course again.

Dreadful course!
Awful course, fairways shocking, greens had moss and weeds growing everywhere, bunkers had grass growing through... mainly made up of stones instead of sand.. we were first out this morning, had to also put the flags out on every green as the man in the pro shop couldn't be bothered! Shocking course will never return. Barkway isn't too far away... I'd recommend there over Heydon any day of the week!Reviewer Rating
