Barkway is a lovely course seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The course itself, although long, has some lovely holes however the greens were not in good condition at all. Very good value for money.

usually excellent...

Normally very well maintained and challenging course however greens were very badly in need of some water and repair weekend 1-2nd Sept. not even the hottest part of our summer. Real shame

Nice course

Long course, good fun, plenty of variety, challenging - at my level (22 hcp). Sometimes a bit confusing which green your heading for, but, nicely laid out, very wide T areas, greens generally quite good, but maybe still suffering from the long hot summer.Hope t be back soon

Some challenging holes

The course has matured over the years into a good test of any golfer's ability to hit the ball straight and long. Great value for money, friendly staff and members and always a joy to visit.

Good greens, nice course in lovely countrside

Barkway has always had good greens and this time was no exception. It's a challenging course physically because it's over 6600 yards off the yellows. We played on a sunny day which showed off the countryside to its best effect. Would definitely play there again.

Tremendous value

A mid week round for £10 what could possibly go wrong? Well absolutely nothing as it happens.
The welcome is warm and the course is in very good condition.
It's long (par 74), it's a bit hilly, but I would have no hesitation in recommending that you play here.
There isn't really a short hole on the front nine (even the one par 3 is 200 yards!) but it runs well (if you keep it straight) so most holes are reachable. There are some very interesting holes with ditches cutting across them in various directions. Certainly not just an up and down layout.
The back nine is slightly friendlier with more choices to be made off the tee.
The wind is the course's major defence and it did it's best on the day we played.
Overall, I'm amazed that there weren't more people playing it.

Course in great condition, tee boxes and greens kept really well. Played on a glorious bank holiday Sunday and it was quiet perhaps due to its location but none the less a great course that we'll be visiting again. ?17 each for a 2 ball you can't go wrong

Longish course often with windy conditions as quite high up compared to surrounding land. Course well kept with good greens and decent fairways.

Terrible

The best part of my experience at this course was the sausage baguette we had before we started, I suppose you get what you pay for. £20 does not get you a great day out on a great course it got us a very poor course with tees you needed a hammer to get a tee into the ground, greens that were not at all responsive and very poorly kept with bare patches on several, and some one dug a ditch that seems to meander over most of the course, the bunkers were badly maintained with a mixture stone mud and sand, and the dinner plates are the smallest i have ever seen 1 slice of ham 1 egg 10 chips GREAT
