Open "Links" type course, very hilly, worth a visit

First time visiting this course, very open and hilly, wouldn't want to visit on a windy/wet day.
Some interesting holes, as a first time visitor playing a number of holes a bit blind. got an acceptable 30 points, playing off a 25 handicap.

Proper golf course, miles from the sea!

Royston is a stunner. Carved into the side of a hill, it is a tough walk but we'll worth it for the sheer joy of the holes you are presented with. Blind shots, elevated tees and knee length grass if you miss the generous fairways make it a harsh but fair test on what is fundamentally an inland links course. You'll probably get a better score the second time you play it unless you play with someone who knows their way around. If the wind blows, you might want to pack a few extra balls.

Highly recommended.

Excellent Course

Course was in excellent condition & was played in a slight breeze with sunny weather. Hardly saw another soul on the course.

Really enjoyable round.
Fairly wide and open off the tee so great course for those not very straight.
Nice offers of varied lengths to keep you on your toes with some Challanging par 3's.
The greens are well protected and not a crazy fast.
Some holes are fairly blind so pay attention to the course layout on the scorecard.
Overall a good enjoyable course and buggy is more than likely needed.

Great Course - very challenging

This is a great course that is great for anyone seeking to improve their game as it is a challenging course with different types of holes some of them unique to this golf course.

Enjoyable and challenging course with some hefty climbs

Course is laid out on the edge of a steep hill, holes go mainly back and forth across the edge, I would say 5-6 fall in into the "angina hill" category. So, overall a challenging hilly course with positioning the approach shot key to scoring well. It is not long but you need to read the fairways correctly to have your ball end the correct side to come in to each green, the course drains well and when it's dry it's hard to hold many of the greens, often you need to bounce in from the correct side, you can run off the edges of many sloping fringes if you place it wrong. Greens themselves are flat-ish overall, a little disease from the Spring left when I played and a couple of real downhill front to back slopes to be wary off. Helps to have played it before for sure, who knew I could hit the 230yds par 3 10th with a five iron....

Great views all around the county on many holes and the real question is would I play it again? Yes. Top tip: once you have paid, drive your car to the rugby club car park and avoid the incredibly long walk from the clubhouse to the course and back.

Excellent bar and very friendly members!

Up and down, up and down. A real challenge. Many hills and long rough. I like the challenge, but it is stiff one.

I'm a member of Royston GC so slightly biased! The course is playable all year round, views on a clear day are stunning. Beware if it's a windy day as the course plays so tough. The rough is growing quickly & is so punishing during the Spring/Summer, balls are easily lost if you are not on the fairway. Greens are excellent all year round. Really friendly Pro Shop, Staff & Members.

If you haven't played Royston, you're missing out!!

A very enjoyable course with something different on every hole.
As long as you have the weather you will enjoy this course.
Bad weather tho along with the very hilly terrain could make it less enjoyable.

An 'inland' links which is quite open and high up with views of 4 counties but not that difficult if you play it sensibly. I thought the course was in reasonable condition given the recent weather and the greens were true albeit quite slow.

It is a tough, hilly course, with links like rough, and it was a fairly windy day. I could not do the course justice, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. The fairways and greens were in good condition.
For the price we paid I was very pleased with the day.

Played in a society recently and the course was in great condition. Greens true and the views spectacular. Found the rough a few times but thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Friendly club house staff and well stocked pro shop.
Worth a visit!
